Safety measures
In order to reduce the risk of accidents during service and installation
work, take extreme care and bear in mind the risk of electrical accidents.
CAUTION!
The lifting tackle must always be designed to suit the pump
weight. See under the heading "Product description".
Pump installation
Arrange the cable run so that the cables will not be kinked or nipped.

Electrical connections

The pump must be connected to terminals or starting equipment installed at
a level at which it cannot be flooded.
The electrical installation shall be inspected by an autorized electrician.
CAUTION!
All electrical equipment must always be earthed (grounded).
This applies both to the pump and to any monitoring
equipment.
N.B. A pump designed for 230 volt can be used in the 220-240 volt range.
A pump designed for 400 volt can be used in the 380-415 volt range.
Connection of stator and motor conductors.
Connect the stator and motor conductors as shown in the diagrams on
page 27.
To enable the correct connections to be made, the number of conductors,
any monitoring equipment and the method of starting (see rating plate)
must be known.
Changing the cable.
When changing the cable, check the following to avoid leakage:
that the rubber bush and washers in the cable entry are suitable for the
cable. See the list of spare parts.
Before starting:
Check the direction of rotation of the pump. At the instant of starting, the
pump will jerk anti-clockwise when viewed from above.
WARNING!
Never insert your hand or any other object into the inlet
opening on the underside of the pump casing when the
pump is connected to the power supply.
Before inspecting the pump casing, check that the pump has been
isolated from the power supply and cannot be energized.
CAUTION!
The starting jerk may be violent. Don't hold the pump
handle when checking the direction of rotation. Make sure
that the pump is firmly supported and cannot rotate.

Service and maintenance

CAUTION!
Before any work is started, check that the pump is isolated
from the power supply and cannot be energized.
Regular inspection and preventive maintenance will ensure more reliable
operation. The pump should be inspected every six months, but more
frequently if the operating conditions are difficult.
Inspection
Pump section
Inspection
Cables
Check that the sheath is not damaged.
Check that the cables are not kinked or nipped.
Visible parts
Check that all parts are in good condition, and that bolts
and nuts are securely tightened.
Impeller
Check that the parts are not worn to such an extent that the
pump performance is affected.
Shaft seal
Check that the oil is clean and is not mixed with water.
Hoses, pipes and valves
Check that the equipment does not leak or is otherwise damaged.
Installation

Operation

The manufacturer reserves the right to change the design and specifications.
Connect the cable. For further particulars, see under the heading "Electrical
connections".
Connect the delivery piping. Hoses, pipes and valves must be selected to
suit the pump delivery head. See under the heading "Product description".
Place the pump on a firm surface which will prevent it from overturning or
burrowing down. The pump can also be suspended by the lifting handle
slightly above the bottom.
For continuous operation, at least half the motor must be submerged. If the
water level is low, the pump should therefore be installed horizontally (see
figures). For further information, get in touch with Pumpex.
that the cable sheath is not damaged. When fitting a cable which has
earlier been used in the pump, always fit a new rubber bush and cut
away a piece of the cable so that it will end up in a new place on the
cable.
CAUTION!
The electrical installation must conform to national and
local regulations.
Check that the mains voltage, frequency, starting equipment and method of
starting agree with the particulars stamped on the motor rating plate.
The power supply should be fused with slow-blow fuses.
The motor should be fitted with an external motor protector, where the
thermal switches can be connected. Single-phase motor must be connected
to external capacitor.
NOTE!
For safety reasons, the earth conductor in the pump should be longer
than the phase conductors.
If the motor cable is accidentally wrenched off, the earth conductor
should be the last to break away from its terminal. This applies to
both ends of the cable.
If the direction of rotation is incorrect, transpose two phases. See under
the heading "Electrical connections".
CAUTION!
Reversal of the direction of rotation on a plug that has no
phase transposing device may be done only by an
authorized person.
CAUTION!
If the built-in motor protection has tripped, the pump will
stop but will restart automatically when it has cooled
down.
For a complete overhaul of the pump, please get in touch with an
authorized Pumpex workshop or your Pumpex dealer.
CAUTION!
Before undertaking any service work, make sure that the
pump is thoroughly clean, and bear in mind the importance
of observing good personal hygiene.
Follow your local safety instructions.
Action in the event of a fault
Fit a new cable.
Correct the fault
Replace worn parts. Tighten any loose bolts and nuts.
Fit a new impeller
In the event of slight leakage, change the oil.
In the event of major leakage, fit a new seal.
Adjust or replace defective equipment.
