3 General application instructions
U2B series force transducers are suitable for measuring tensile and compres­
sive forces. They provide highly accurate static and dynamic force measure­
ments and must therefore be handled very carefully. Particular care must be
taken during transportation and installation. Dropping and knocking the trans­
ducer may cause permanent damage.
There are two parts to U2B series force transducers:
The upper part of the transducer is the actual measuring body. There is an
external thread on the top, that is used for force application.
The lower part is an adapter that is bolted to the measuring body by four or
eight screws. This adapter has an internal thread, to which the forces to be
measured must be applied.
It is possible to remove the adapter so that the four or eight internal threads in
the sensor housing can be used to mount the U2B directly onto a construction
element.
Chapter 11 "Specifications", page 30 lists the permissible limits for mechanical,
thermal and electrical stress. It is essential to observe these limits when plan­
ning the measuring set-up, during installation and, ultimately, during operation.
