Operating and assembly instructions SVD
• Do not subject to vibratory or shock loads, now or later
during operation. For permissible blower vibration values, refer
to ISO 14694, BV-3.
• Firmly screw down the feet on blowers at the place of use onto
a suitable fi rm level load-bearing base free from transmis-
EN
sion of vibratory or shock loads.
• Installation of standard blowers with a vertical drive shaft is
possible with SVD blowers up to the following models:
maximum to SVD 14.
• Cover exposed intake and outlet ports with wire mesh
guards conformant to DIN EN ISO 13857.
• Ensure the motor is adequately ventilated.
Permissible ambient temperatures for:
Serial version with a rated voltage
(max. ±10% voltage tolerance) and a rated frequency of
50Hz or 60Hz.
• Ambient temperature -20°C to +60°C
Special voltages, multi-voltage motors, versions suitable
for FU and FUK (variable speed) series, units with UL
approval, units with air control:
• Ambient temperature -20°C to +40°C
The drive motor's ventilation system must not be impaired by
the installation circumstances.

3.2 Electrical connection

Note!
The work described in this section may only be
performed by a qualifi ed electrician. Connect the
appliance as per the circuit diagram in the termi-
nal box and in accordance with the relevant local
requirements.
Three-phase or single-phase a.c. motors are used as drive
motors. In the equipment identifi ers, the letter D denotes
three-phase (3~) and E denotes single-phase (1~).
• The drive motor must be protected by a motor circuit break
er (not applicable for units powered by frequency convert-
er). With units powered by frequency converter, the exist-
ing temperature sensor (PTC thermistor detector) or
temperature monitor (break contact) is to be connected to
the converter and evaluated.
• Checking that the supply voltage matches the details on
12
the rating plate.
• The safety earth terminal can be found in the terminal box.
Note!
When the drive motor is operated with a frequen-
cy converter, the following must also be observed:
• Motors operated on the frequency converter
must bear the option marking /FU on the rating
plate (suitable for frequency converter operation)
or else have been ordered and confi rmed as suit-
able for such operation.
• The frequency converter supply voltage must
only be a maximum of 400 V without the motor
fi lter. Appropriate measures, such as a motor
fi lter to protect the motor, must be installed on
the motor terminals with longer cables, higher
frequency converter supply voltages and/or if
the pulse voltages are exceeded (max. 1000 Vpk
for drive motors up to 0.75 kW, maximum 1300
Vpk for drive motors larger than 0.75 kW). Please
contact the converter supplier in this case. If a
motor fi lter is included in the delivery, this must
be installed between the converter and the motor.
Please ensure that there is suffi cient space in the
switch cabinet and take into account the installa-
tion and assembly requirements in the operating
instructions of the frequency converter/motor
fi lter manufacturer.
• The maximum line length between motor and
frequency converter must not exceed 20 metres.
A suitable shielded cable must be used for this,
with as direct a path as possible and no further
plug-in or clamped connections.
• The shielding braid in the connecting cable
must be continuous and have a low-impedance
connection to the earth system at both ends (i.e.
at frequency converter and motor). At the motor
end, this is to be done with suitable EMC screwed
cable glands that make low-impedance contact
with the entire perimeter of the cable shield.
Further information on EMC conformant installation and as-
sembling can be gleaned from the advice in manufacturers'
operating and installation instructions for frequency convert-
ers.

Checking the direction of rotation
Switch on the blower. The impeller's direction of motion must
correspond to the direction arrow on the housing. If the direc-
tion of rotation is wrong, L1 and L3 must be swapped.
Star-delta starting
Motors above 3.0 kW are intended for star-delta starting on
the supply system. For direct switching on (high short-circuit
current at instant of switch-on) please clarify the conditions
with your electricity supply company.

3.3 Special circuitry and additional terminals
The terminal boxes for the motors also come with wiring dia-
grams for voltage-selectable motors, pole-changing motors,
FU-series (variable speed) motors and other special circuitry
for three-phase or single-phase a.c. motors. The same ap-
plies for the optional thermal winding protection and standstill
heaters.

stalled in other machines or systems by qualifi ed personnel,
