Abbreviations and Technical Terms

Common The Common Interface (CI) is an interface which can accept CI modules.
Interface / CI modules can accept a smart card required to receive encrypted pay-TV

channels. The smart card contains the subscriber's data, together with data
on the channels that have been paid for and can be received.
DiSEqC DiSEqC (Digital Satellite Equipment Control) is a digital control signal system
which allows reception from more than 1 satellite.
EPG, EPG (Electronic Programme Guide) is an electronic programme guide which

Gracenote EPG is an Electronic Programme Guide of the latest generation

provided by gracenote. Gracenote EPG supplies programme data for more
than 160 channels up to 14 days in advance.
HbbTV HbbTV (Hybrid broadcast broadband TV) – together with Teletext – provides
additional information from the programme providers. This information can
be received via the TV signal and also via the Internet.
HDMI HDMI (High Definition Multimedia Interface) is a digital interface for video and
audio.
Live mode In Live mode the TV set shows a programme that is currently being broad-
cast. Other operating modes are
● Timeshift,
● playing back a programme from the recorded archive,
● play content from the Internet, such as HbbTV, Internet radio.
LNB The LNB (Low Noise Block Converter) is located at the focal point of a satel-
lite antenna. The LNB converts the satellite frequencies into lower frequen-
cies which can be processed by a satellite receiver.
Multi- A multi-switch distributes signals delivered from the LNB to the individual
switch
receivers.
Pay TV Subscription TV channels. For reception of pay-TV channels, a subscription
must be paid to the pay-TV provider.

S/PDIF (Sony/Philips Digital Interface Format) is a digital interface for elec-
trical or optical transmission of digital audio signals, such as Dolby Digital
AC-3.
