BRACE APPLICATION
Note: Össur's recommended application technique is with the patient in
a supine position.
1. Log roll the patient on to their side.
2. Position the Posterior Panel centered over the spine, with the bottom
of the Posterior Panel at approximately the sacrococcygeal joint.
3. Log roll the patient back into the supine position.
4. Wrap the lumbar belt around the waist and through the Össur Fit Tool
(Fig. 2). Adjust the length of the belt arms to position the tool
centrally. Secure the Velcro Stay Fit Tabs to desired sizing (Fig. 3).
5. Remove Össur Fit Tool and Adjustable Belt from patient (Fig. 4).
6. Place belt ends into the Overlap Closures (Fig. 5). To obtain the
lowest profile fit, the belt arm ends can be trimmed if later
adjustments are not required.
7. Once belt ends are secured in alligator tabs, the Overlap Closures will
serve as belt ends (Fig. 6).
Note: Panels can be customized by heat-molding, grinding, or
trimming, to achieve correct patient fit (Fig. 7).
8. Adjust the Compression System Cord length if necessary (Fig. 8).
9. The Posterior Panel should be centered on the spine, with the bottom
of the panel at approximately the sacrococcygeal joint (Fig. 9). The
Anterior Panel should be centered on the abdomen with the bottom
edge just above the symphysis pubis, while still allowing the patient
to sit comfortably (Fig. 10).
10. Close belt securing the Overlap Closures. Slide thumbs through the
holes in the two Compression System Handles, and pull until the
brace is at the appropriate tightness. For best results, re-tighten the
compression system while the patient is supine (Fig. 11).
Note: If an Össur Fit Tool is not available, the sizing guide (Fig. 12)
can be used to estimate best patient fit based on waist circumference.
Simply fold or trim the belt arms at the suggested location. If the
patient's waist exceeds 50" (127 cm), an extension belt can be added
to each belt arm to reach a maximum belt circumference of 70"
(178 cm).
