Number of Operable CPs for S5 Compatible Communication
The following applies for the CPU 417-4H: 10 is the maximum number of operable CPs for S5
compatible communication.
This information is missing in the current S7-400, M7-400 Programmable Controllers, Module
Specifications reference manual.

Configuration
Upper Limit for the Number of Connections
Observe the following three rules to avoid possible performance and even redundancy losses
of your H system.
S
Do not configure more than 16 H connections.
If you require more than 16 H connections, you should use the CPU 417-4H with the order
number 6ES7 417-4HL01-0AB0 as of release 01 and firmware version V3.0.0.
S
If you need exactly 16 H connections, no standard connections should be configured.
S
The number of the configured standard connections should be less than or the same as
32 – 2 (number of the configured H connections).
Required Programming Package for the CPU 417-4H
In contrast to the information in Section 4.16 of the S7-400, M7-400 Programmable Controllers,
Module Specifications reference manual, the CPU 417-4H requires STEP 7 as of V5.1.
S7 Message Functions
In contrast to the information in Section 4.16 of the S7-400, M7-400 Programmable Controllers,
Module Specifications reference manual, the CPU 417-4H does not have a SCAN procedure.
Setting the CPU Parameters that Determine Cyclic Behavior
You can specify the CPU parameters that determine the cyclic behavior of the system when
you configure the hardware with STEP 7. They are on the "Cycle/Clock Memory" tab. We
recommend the following settings:
S
The longest possible scan cycle monitoring time (e.g. 6000 ms)
S
The smallest possible process input image (somewhat larger than the number of inputs
actually used)
S
The smallest possible process output image (somewhat larger than the number of outputs
actually used)
S
OB85 call in the event of I/O access errors: Only with incoming and outgoing errors
