Operation

Once the settings and the configurations have been accomplished successfully, no further modification or
resetting will be necessary. A perfect set-up will ensure both stereo and surround sound.
Since especially in movies quick changes in level (high dynamics) occur that may lead to overload of amplifiers
and loudspeakers, please read the following notes on overload limits of your amplifier/loudspeaker combination.

Active Subwoofers

All current ELAC subwoofers are equipped with ESP.
ESP® is a stabilization program working dependent on frequency and power. Like in a car, where the electronic
stabilization program permanently controls the balance and ensures a reliable performance of the car even in
extreme situations, ELAC's ESP® subwoofers act in a similar way. Contrary to conventional active subwoofers, it
is now practically impossible to overdrive ESP® subwoofers. Their electronic components ensure that even under
maximum power no background noises can be detected.

Passive loudspeakers

ELAC's home cinema loudspeakers are provided with a reversible fuse to switch off the speakers in the case of
overload, and apart from extreme situations (abrupt volume increase) protecting them from other damages.

Amplifier

Amplifiers for surround systems often do not provide a device for displaying the amount of supplied and absorbed
power.
Since the amp amplifies the input signal (e.g. of the CD/DVD player) by a certain degree, the position of the volume
control does not admit any conclusions as to the loading of the amplifier. The full-load output depends on several
factors. Thus the power limit of an amplifier can be exceeded already at a relatively low volume when playing a CD
recorded at high volume.
Most amplifiers nowadays are protected against electrical and thermal overload.
The following rule applies to all home theatre systems:
Pay attention to audible distortions in order not to exceed maximum load of your home theatre system and
turn down the volume immediately.
