POLESTAR 17" TFT-Monitor
TK-17 8MS
Item no. 99 83 15
Intended use
The monitor is designed for connection to a graphic card in a typical PC and enables display of images
delivered by the graphic card. The monitor supports VGA connection.
Any usage other than described above is not permitted and can damage the product and lead to associated
risks such as short-circuit, fire, electric shock, etc. No part of the product may be modified or rebuilt. Please
read the operating instructions thoroughly and keep them for further reference.

Safety instructions
We do not assume liability for resulting damages to property or personal injury if the
product has been abused in any way or damaged by improper use or failure to observe
these operating instructions. The warrant will then expire!
An exclamation mark in a triangle indicates important information in the operating
instructions. Carefully read the whole operating instructions before operating the device,
otherwise there is risk of danger.
Unauthorised conversion and/or modification of the device are inadmissible because of safety and
approval reasons (CE).
The monitor contains high voltage components. Never open the monitor.
The user's eyes should be at least 50 cm away from the screen surface.
The monitor must be positioned on a level and sturdy surface with sufficient space. Falling from height
can damage the monitor but also cause bodily injury due to its heavy weight.
The monitor has an external power adapter. The monitor must be operated with that adapter.
The monitor must not be installed or operated near heat sources (radiators, furnaces, etc.) because
this presents the danger of overheating. Do not expose the product to extreme heat or cold or to direct
sunlight.
The monitor should be located in a well-ventilated room. Do not block any ventilation openings.
The product must not be used in hospitals or medical facilities. Although the product only emits relatively
weak radio signals, these signals could lead to functional disturbances in life-sustaining systems.
The external power adapter design corresponds to protection class I. Only grounded wall outlet can be
used as voltage source.
The product is not a toy and should be kept out of reach of children and pets!
If there is reason to believe that safe operation is no longer possible, put the device out of operation and
secure it against unintended operation. Safe operation is no longer possible if:
-
the device shows visible damages,
-
the device no longer works,
-
the power cord or plug becomes wore out or otherwise damaged,
-
the device was stored under unfavourable conditions for a long period of time and
-
the device was subject to considerable transport stress.
Packaging material must not be laid around carelessly. Plastic foil or bags, polystyrene parts etc. could
become a dangerous toy for children.
Qualified personnel should monitor the operation of this product in schools and training facilities and
hobby and DIY workshops in a responsible manner.
In industrial facilities the safety regulations of the professional trade association for electrical equipment
and facilities must be observed.
If any questions arise that are not answered in this operating manual, contact our Technical Advisory
Service or other experts.

Cleaning
Turn off the monitor and the computer and detach the power plugs from mains socket
before cleaning.
Ensure that no liquids penetrate into the interior of the monitor. This will destroy the
product. Never spray cleaning sprays directly onto the monitor surface! Spray them onto
a cloth, and clean the surface with the cloth. Make sure that you do not use too much of
the cleaning agent.
Clean the screen with a dry, clean, lint-free cloth or a clean, long hair brush. The cloth can be moistened with
lukewarm water to remove tougher stains.
For a more thorough cleaning, apply a small amount of non-ammonia, non-alcohol based glass cleaner onto
a clean, soft, lint-free cloth and wipe the surface.
Hints
Due to the inertia of the pixels in a TFT-display, an increase in refresh frequency to over 60Hz (the number
of times the picture is transmitted to and written repeatedly on the monitor screen) does not contribute
to making the display flicker-free. Setting the frequency higher (e.g. 75Hz) may even worsen display
quality!
The product consumes a small amount of energy even when it is switched off, because the "" switch
is not a mains switch. Therefore, it is recommended to connect the power plug of the monitor to a
multiple socket with mains switch. You can connect further devices with stand-by current consumption
(e.g. speakers, computer with ATX mains unit, scanner, printer etc.) to this multiple socket and thus save
energy. Before turning off the PC system through the mains switch via the multiple socket, switch off all
devices.
A complete PC system might consume about 50 W when it is switched off. Thus, for one day a whole
kilowatt hour (1 kWh) is wasted!
Troubleshooting
With this TFT-display you have acquired a state of the art product which is very reliable. Nevertheless,
problems and malfunctions may occur. Therefore, we wish to describe, how to resolve such possible
occurrences.
Problem
Suggested solution
no function
Is the monitor connected to the power adapter, is the power adapter
itself connected to the mains?
Has the monitor been switched on, does the power LED light up,
or start to blink?
Is the mains socket functional?
"No Signal" apppears
Is the cable disconnected?
Check whether all contacts of both plugs are straight (they shall not
be bend or crooked).
When using monitor selector switches problems may occur. Try to
connect the monitor without the selector for testing.
Is the computer switched on?
Check all connection cables?
Old graphic cards with 9 pins connection are not suitable (using an
adapter from 9 - 15 pins does not solve the problem!).
"No Support" appears
The resolution or refresh frequency of the graphic card is outside
the display range of the monitor.
If using a new TFT-monitor as a replacement for an old one,
reconnect the previous monitor and set the refresh frequency to 60
Hz and the resolution in accordance with that of the new monitor
(1280*1024). Save all settings, shut its operating system down.
Now connect the new monitor and boot up the operating system
again.
Bad picture quality
Activate the automatic set-up mode ("AUTO ADJUST"), or do the
set-up manually.
Place the monitor in a location further away from sources of
interference (e. g. laser printers, other monitors, neon lights, or
strong loud speakers etc.)
Do not use extension cables; if you do so use only those of high
quality.
Further faults
Please consult our service hot line order request advice from
experts.
Disposal
In order to preserve, protect and improve the quality of environment, protect human health and
utilise natural resources prudently and rationally, the user should return unserviceable product
to relevant facilities in accordance with statutory regulations.
The crossed-out wheeled bin indicates the product needs to be disposed separately and not as
municipal waste.
