1. Intended use
The product is meant to operate a hard drive or a CD/DVD drive/ burner (either IDE or SATA) via USB port.
It is intended for indoor use only. Do not use it outdoors. Contact with moisture, e.g. in bathrooms, must be
avoided under all circumstances.
For safety and approval purposes (CE), you must not rebuild and/or modify this product. If you use the product
for purposes other than those described above, the product may be damaged. In addition, improper use can
cause hazards such as short circuiting, fire, electric shock etc. Read the instructions carefully and keep them.
Make this product available to third parties only together with its operating instructions.
This product complies with the statutory national and European requirements. All company names and product

3. Safety instructions

Read the operating instructions carefully and especially observe the safety information.
If you do not follow the safety instructions and information on proper handling in this
manual, we assume no liability for any resulting personal injury or damage to property.
Such cases will invalidate the warranty/guarantee.
Persons / Product
• The device is not a toy. Keep it out of the reach of children and pets.
• Do not leave packaging material lying around carelessly. These may become dangerous playing material
for children.
• Protect the product from extreme temperatures, direct sunlight, strong jolts, high humidity, moisture,
flammable gases, vapours and solvents.
• Do not place the product under any mechanical stress.
• If it is no longer possible to operate the product safely, take it out of operation and protect it from any
accidental use. Safe operation can no longer be guaranteed if the product:
- is visibly damaged,
- is no longer working properly,
- has been stored for extended periods in poor ambient conditions or
- has been subjected to any serious transport-related stresses.
• Please handle the product carefully. Jolts, impacts or a fall even from a low height can damage the product.
• Also observe the safety and operating instructions of any other devices which are connected to the product.
• Check the product for damage before use! If you notice any damages, you must not connect and use the
product.
• The product is only intended for use in dry, indoor locations. No part of the product should be allowed to
become moist or wet; never take hold of it if your hands are wet!
• As power supply, only use the supplied mains adaptor.
• Only connect the power adaptor to a normal mains socket connected to the public supply. Before plugging
in the power adaptor, check whether the voltage stated on the power adaptor complies with the voltage of
your electricity supplier.
• Never connect or disconnect power adaptors if your hands are wet.
• Never unplug the power adaptor from the mains socket by pulling on the cable; always use the grips on
the plug.
• When setting up the product, make sure that the cable is not pinched, kinked or damaged by sharp edges.
• Always lay the cables so that nobody can trip over or become entangled in them. This poses a risk of injury.
• For safety reasons, disconnect the power adaptor from the mains socket during storms.
• If the power adaptor is damaged, do not touch it; there is danger to life from electric shock! First, switch off
the mains voltage to the socket to which the power adaptor is connected (switch off at the corresponding
circuit breaker or, for example remove, the safety fuse, switch off the corresponding FI protective switch, so
that the socket is fully disconnected). Only then pull the damaged power adaptor out of the mains socket
and dispose of it in an environmentally responsible manner. Replace it with a new power adaptor with the
same specifications.
• The design of the power adaptor complies with protection class II.
Miscellaneous
• Consult an expert when in doubt about operation, safety or connection of the device.
• Maintenance, modifications and repairs are to be performed exclusively by an expert or at a qualified shop.

5. General information on connecting drives
• Hard disk drives are heat-sensitive. Note the manufacturer's specifications as to the optimal operating
temperature.
• Before connecting or disconnecting a drive (hard disk drive or optical drive), disconnect the power supply.
Unplug the power adaptor.
• This product allows the operation of three hard disk drives at the same time.
CD/DVD writer:
When using a CD or DVD writer, only one additional 6.35 cm/2.5" drive can be connected.
6. Connection of a 6.35 cm/2.5" IDE hard drive
• Observe the operating instructions of the hard drive for correct setup of the hard drive.
• Connect the hard drive to the respective connection (5) observing the correct alignment of the 44-pin
flatcable plug. The electronics of the hard drive are pointed downwards, the LEDs on the enclosure of the
adaptor upwards.
• Connect the USB connection socket (3) via the USB connection cable, enclosed, to a USB port on your
computer (use a USB 2.0 socket where possible).
• Connect the round socket (2) with the power adaptor.
7. Connection of a 8.89 cm/3.5" IDE drive
• Observe the operating instructions of the hard drive for correct setup of the hard drive.
• Connect the hard drive to the respective connection (6) observing the correct alignment of the 40-pin
flatcable plug. The electronics of the hard drive are pointed downwards, the LEDs on the enclosure of the
adaptor upwards.
• Connect the drive's power connection to the output socket (1) using the power adaptor cable. There is no
power supply to the drive via the IDE data connection!
• Connect the USB connection socket (3) via the USB connection cable, enclosed, to a USB port on your
computer (use a USB 2.0 socket where possible).
• Connect the round socket (2) with the power adaptor.
8. Connection of an SATA drive
• Connect the drive to the respective connector (4).
• Connect the USB connection socket (3) via the USB connection cable, enclosed, to a USB port on your
computer (use a USB 2.0 socket where possible).
• Connect the round socket (2) with the power adaptor.
