5. CHARGING
1. Make sure that the battery charger is properly connected to the battery and connect
the power cord to the mains outlet.
2. The battery charger automatically detects if it is a 6V or 12V battery and then selects
the appropriate charging mode. For 12V, it selects the FAST charging mode. For 6V, it
selects the 6V charging mode. You can manually select the charging mode by pressing
the MODE button.
3. Charging can be stopped at any time by disconnecting the power cord or by pressing
the MODE button.
REMEMBER!
Do not leave the charger connected to the battery without the power cord plugged in.
If the reverse polarity warning symbol lights up, the cables have been connected to the wrong
terminal. Make sure that you connect each cable to the correct terminals. If the "Bad battery"
symbol is lit, the battery is of too poor quality to recharge. Replace the battery.
CHARGING THE BATTERY WHEN IT IS FITTED IN THE VEHICLE
1. Make sure that the battery charger's power cord and charger cables are positioned so
that they are not at risk of being damaged by the engine hood, door or moving parts on
the engine.
2. Be careful not to get too close to fan blades, drive belts, pulleys, etc. that could cause
personal injury.
3. Check the polarity of the battery terminals. The POSITIVE (POS, P, "red", +) battery
terminal usually has a slightly larger diameter than the NEGATIVE (NEG, N, "black", -)
battery terminal.
4. Determine which battery terminal is earthed (connected) to the vehicle's chassis. On
most vehicles, the negative (-) battery terminal is earthed (connected) to the vehicle's
chassis.
DO THE FOLLOWING IF THE VEHICLE IS EARTHED ON THE NEGATIVE SIDE (APPLIES TO
MOST VEHICLES):
1. Connect the charger's RED battery clamp to the battery's positive (+) terminal.
2. Connect the charger's BLACK battery clamp to the vehicle's chassis or engine block
(NOT to the battery). NOTE: The black battery clamp must NOT be connected to carbu-
rettor, fuel line or thin metal plate parts.
3. Plug the charger's plug into a 230V mains outlet. Charging begins.
4. The charging indicator shows the charging status. Once the battery is fully charged, all
four fields of the battery indicator are lit on the display.
5. Remove the charger's BLACK battery clamp from the vehicle's chassis or engine
block.
6. Remove the charger's RED battery clamp from the battery's positive (+) terminal.
DO THE FOLLOWING IF THE VEHICLE IS EARTHED ON THE POSITIVE SIDE:
1. Connect the black clamp to the battery's negative terminal.
