For Your Safety

Working safely with this machine is
possible only when the operating
and safety information are read
completely and the instructions
contained therein are strictly fol-
lowed.
In addition, the general safety in-
structions in the enclosed booklet
must be followed.
Before using for the first time, ask
for a practical demonstration.
If the cable is damaged or cut through
while working, do not touch the cable
but immediately pull the mains plug.
Never use the machine with a dam-
aged cable.
Wear ear protection to prevent damage
to your hearing.
When working, always wear protective
glasses, working gloves and sturdy
shoe.
For long hair, wear hair protection.
Work only with close-fitting clothes.
Dust produced while working can be
detrimental to health, inflammable or
explosive. Suitable protection meas-
ures are required.
Examples: Some dusts are considered
to be carcinogenic. Use suitable dust/
chip extraction and wear a dust protec-
tion mask.
Light metal dust can burn or explode.
Always keep the work place clean
since material mixtures are especially
dangerous.
For overhead wet drilling,
always use a water collect-
ing ring. (GDB 1600 WE)
Take care that the water
collecting ring is in flawless
condition.
Drill only with a FI protection
switch.
For safety reasons, check the proper
functioning of the FI protection switch 1
before starting to work. (GDB 1600
WE)
Have a damaged FI protection switch
or cable professionally repaired or re-
placed at a Bosch-customer service lo-
cation.

Connect machines that are used outdoors by
s
means of a fault current protection switch (FI) with
a maximum triggering current of 30 mA. Use only
an extension cable that is approved for outdoor
use. (GDB 1600 DE)
The machine may be connected only to a properly
s
earthed power system. The socket and extension
cable must have a functional protective conductor.
Insert the mains plug into the socket only when the
s
machine is switched off.
Always switch off the machine and allow to come
s
to a stop before putting down.
Always direct the cable to the rear away from the
s
machine.
Drilling machines for dry drilling must not be used
s
for wet drilling work.
For safety reason, it is generally recommended that
s
the machine be clamped in a drilling stand.
When working with the machine, always hold it
s
firmly with both hands and provide for a secure
stance.
Never allow children to use the machine.
s
Bosch is able to ensure perfect functioning of the
s
machine only if the original accessories intended
for it are used.

Before Use

Be careful of hidden electrical lines or
gas and water pipes. Check the work-
ing area, e.g., with a metal detector.
Before starting to work, seek advice from the respon-
sible structural engineer, architect or the construction
superintendent with regard to the planned drilling, es-
pecially when cutting through reinforcing steel.
When drilling through walls and floors, check the
rooms concerned for obstacles and block off the
work area. Secure against falling drilling cores
with planking.
Always use the correct supply voltage!
The voltage of the power source must agree with the
value given on the nameplate of the machine. Ma-
chines designated for 230 V can also be operated with
220 V.
The mains cord and plug must be in perfect con-
dition.
