• The base station will now initiate the search for the signal of the outdoor sensor; the
reception icon on the top left on the display is blinking. This takes approx. 3 minutes.
Do not press any button during this time. Do not move the base station.
The outdoor sensor should be placed nearby the base station (distance 0.5 to 1 m)
during this stage.
• If after 3 minutes, the base station is still not displaying any outdoor sensor tempera-
ture data (the upper row on the displays shows dashes, but no temperature value),
perform a new search for the outdoor sensor at a later stage (after receiving the
DCF signal).
• After the 3 minute search for the outdoor sensor has elapsed, the base station will
proceed with the search for the DCF signal.
The DCF signal is a signal broadcast from a trans-
mitter in Mainflingen (near Frankfurt am Main). Its
range is up to 1500 km and, under ideal reception
conditions, even up to 2000 km.
The DCF signal also contains the exact time and the
date, among other details.
Naturally, this also eliminates the hassle of manually
setting up summer and winter times.
• While the base station is searching for the DCF signal, the radio tower icon on the
bottom right is blinking.
Do not place the base station next to electronic devices, metal parts, ca-
bles and so on. Also expect poor signal strength where metallised insulating
glass windows, reinforced concrete constructions, coated special wallpa-
per is used or in basement rooms.
• Capture and analysis of the DCF signal can take up to 5 minutes. Do not move the
base station during that time. Do not use any buttons.
After the base station has read the DCF signal correctly, the current time of the day
and the date are displayed and the radio tower symbol stops flashing.
The synchronisation of the base station and DCF signal is done daily at 01:00, 02:00,
03:00, 04:00 and 05:00. One successful reception attempt per day already is enough
to keep the time deviation shown on the display below one second.
• During summer time "DST" is shown on the left next to the time (DST = "Daylight
Saving Time" = summer time).
• If no current time is shown on the base station's display after about 5 minutes, move
the base station to a different site. Then either start a new search for the DCF signal
or set the time manually, see chapter "Manually initiating the DCF signal reception
attempt".
Installation/Set-up
a) Base station
Set up the base station on an even and stable surface by means of the folding leg (8).
Protect valuable furniture surfaces by using a suitable mat to prevent scratches.
Via the hole on the rear side, you can mount the base station on a wall using a nail, a
hook or a screw.
Don't place the base station near heaters; protect also from direct sunlight.
Otherwise, the ambient temperature will not be measured correctly.
b) Outdoor sensor
The outdoor sensor is intended for use in protected outdoor areas. It should
be placed so that it is not exposed to direct sunlight, since this can result in
a false temperature reading.
Precipitation falling on the sensor will also lead to a false temperature read-
ing, since this cools the housing. Never dip the outdoor sensor in or under
water; this will destroy it!
The outdoor sensor can be mounted on the wall through its rear opening using a nail,
screw or hook. Because of the built-in LCD display, it is recommended to mount it next
to a window for example.
A small folding leg allows for the installation on a plane surface also.
Manually initiating the DCF signal reception attempt
Hold down button "DOWN/CF" (5) for as long as 2 seconds. This will initialise the
search for the DCF signal, the radio tower icon bottom right of the display is blinking.
The reception attempt lasts for approx. 5 minutes, do not move the base station during
this time, and do not press any button.
You may also wait for a day, so that the attempt to catch the DCF signal can
happen at night, when a better reception of the DCF signal can be achieved.
If you hold down the button "DOWN/CF' again for 2 seconds, search for the DCF signal
will be aborted prematurely.
If the DCF reception is impossible at the location of the base station, set the time
manually.
Searching for the outdoor sensor
If the outdoor sensor is not found, the upper row on the display will show only dashes
instead of the temperature.
In case of reception problems, reduce the distance between the outdoor
sensor and the base station or select a different installation location. Also
check the outdoor sensor's batteries and replace with new ones, if neces-
sary.
In order to initiate the search for the outdoor sensor manually, hold down the button
"UP" (6) for 2 seconds.
In the upper left of the display, the reception symbol flashes. This takes approx. 3 min-
utes. Do not press any button during this time. Do not move the base station.
Setting the time of day manually
• To start the setting mode, hold down the button "SET" (4) for approx. 2 seconds.
• Time zone is flashing on the display; by using the buttons "DOWN/CF" (5) or "UP" (6)
set the time in the range from -12 to +12 hours.
For a quick adjustment, hold the corresponding button for a longer period of time.
This also applies for the settings of hours and minutes described below.
• Briefly press the "SET" (4) button, the hours will blink.
• Set the hours using the button "DOWN/CF" (5) or "UP" (6).
• Briefly press the "SET" (4) button, the minutes will blink.
• Set the minutes using the button "DOWN/CF" (5) or "UP" (6).
• Briefly press the "SET" (4) to set the seconds of the displayed time to "00" and to exit
settings.
Switch between 12h / 24h format
Briefly press the "UP" button to switch between the 12h and 24h modes. If the 12h
format is used, "PM" appears in the display on the left next to the time during the
second half of the day.
Switching between temperature units °C/°F
• Briefly press the button "DOWN/CF" (5) on the base station in order to toggle be-
tween the temperature units°C (degrees Celsius) and °F (degrees Fahrenheit). Here,
the base station should not be in setting mode.
• To change the temperature unit in the display of the outdoor sensor, open the bat-
tery compartment of the outdoor sensor and briefly press the "°C/°F" button that is
located there.
Displaying MIN/MAX values
On the base station press and release several times the button "MAX/MIN" (2), in
order to toggle between the following displays:
• Maximum value ("MAX" on display)
• Minimum value ("MIN" on display)
• Current reading (not indicated)
Resetting MIN/MAX values
Hold down the "MIN/MAX" (2) button for about 2 seconds to reset minimum and maxi-
mum values.
The current temperature values will be shown as the new minimum and maximum
values until a another modification occurs.
Alarm function
a) Viewing the alarm time
• Briefly press the "ALARM" (1) button in order to display the alarm time in the lower
row on the display.
• Wait for a few seconds or press briefly button "SET" (4), and the times will be dis-
played.
b) Turning the alarm function on/off
• Briefly press the "ALARM" (1) button in order to display the alarm time in the lower
row on the display.
• By briefly pressing the "UP" button (6), you can switch the alarm function on or off.
A bell symbol appears in the display, if the alarm function is activated.
c) Setting the alarm
• Hold down "ALARM" (1) for about 2 seconds, the hours of the alarm time begin to
blink.
• Set the hours of the alarm by using the buttons "DOWN/CF" (5) or "UP" (6). For quick
adjustment, hold the corresponding button for a little longer.
• Briefly press the "ALARM" (1) button, the minutes of the alarm time flashes.
• Set the hours of the alarm by using the buttons "DOWN/CF" (5) or "UP" (6). For quick
adjustment, hold the corresponding button for a little longer.
• Briefly press the "ALARM" (1) button to save the settings and exit the setting mode.
