• The unauthorised conversion and/or modification of the product is
inadmissible because of safety and approval reasons (CE).
• The design of the AC transformer complies with protection class II. Only
connect the power transformer to a mains socket.
• Only use the external power transformer supplied to power the unit.
• The product must not get damp or wet as this may damage it, danger of a
fatal electric shock!
• The device is not a toy. Keep devices that operate on the mains voltage out
of the reach of children! Therefore, take extra care if children are around.
• Do not leave packing materials unattended. They may become dangerous
playing material for children.
• Handle the product with care, it can be damaged by impact, blows, or
accidental drops, even from a low height.
Connection
• Switch on your PC and wait until the operating system has finished loading.
• With Windows 98SE, the driver on the CD included in the delivery must be installed
first.
With Windows ME/XP/Vista, the driver are included with the operating
system, the CD must not be used!
• Connect the low-voltage from the supplied transformer to the correct input on the
rear of the housing.
• Plug the mains transformer into a mains socket.
• Connect the USB connector, on the rear, to a free USB2.0 port on your computer,
using the USB cable supplied.
• Naturally, a conventional USB1.1 port on the computer can be used instead of a
USB2.0 port. However, in this case the transfer data rate will be very low (USB1.1,
about 1 MByte/sec max.).
Inserting a hard disk
• First, switch off the enclosure (on/off switch on the top, the power LED is off).
• Insert a 8.89  cm-/3.5" or 6.35  cm-/2.5" SATA hard disk vertically into the upper
opening, so that the terminal block of the SATA hard disk fits exactly on to the plugs
inside the enclosure (if you press the dust cover slightly with a finger, you can see
the plugs inside the enclosure).
Do not exert force during insertion! However, the terminal blocks on the
SATA hard disk must lock into place.
• Switch on the enclosure.
Ejecting a hard disk
• First, switch off the enclosure (on/off switch on the top, the power LED is off).
• Wait at least 30 seconds, so that the magnetic disks can come to rest.
• Pressing the left eject button causes a lever to lift up the hard disk mechanically and
unlocks the hard disk. This may be a bit stiff for 8.89 cm-/3.5" SATA hard disks. You
can also pull out the hard disks manually, without pressing the eject button.
Partitioning / formatting the hard drive
If a new hard disk is inserted in the docking station, it has to be partitioned
first and then formatted before it can be use, e.g. appear in the Windows file
manager.
Partition and format the disk in the computer management. If necessary, consult the
online help.
Handling
• Do not move the product when it is in operation. Never pull out the hard
disk drive, when the enclosure is switched on. After switching off, wait for
at least 30 seconds before pulling out the hard disk.
• Grasp the hard disk laterally in the housing, do not touch the plate with
the electronics. Electrostatic discharge can destroy the hard disk and the
docking station.
• When setting up the product, make sure that the cables are neither kinked
nor pinched.
• Only use in dry indoor locations. The product must not get damp or wet!
