G Operating Instructions
USB 3.0/eSATA docking station
Item no. 1195298
Intended Use
The docking station provides the option to operate up to three SATA hard drives/SSDs
(design size 8.89 cm/3.5" or 6.35 cm/2.5") via USB 3.0 or eSATA.
The external wall plug transformer provided is used to supply the power of the docking
station and the hard drives/SSDs inserted in the docking station.
Always observe the safety instructions included in these operating instructions.
Please read the operating instructions carefully and keep them.
Any use other than that described above could lead to damage to this product and
involves the risk of short circuits, fire, electric shock, etc. No part of the product may

Explanation of Symbols, Inscriptions
The lightning symbol inside a triangle is a warning to inform you of potential
risks of your health and life, such as electrical shock.
This symbol indicates specific risks associated with handling, function and
use.
The "arrow" symbol indicates special tips and operating information.
Safety Instructions
D amages due to failure to follow these operating instructions will void the
warranty/guarantee! We do not assume any liability for any resulting dam-
age!
W e do not assume any liability for material and personal damage caused
by improper use or non-compliance with the safety instructions! The war-
ranty/guarantee will be void in such cases!
• The unauthorised conversion and/or modification of the product is not
permitted for safety and approval reasons (CE). Never dismantle the prod-
uct.
• This product is not a toy. Devices operated using mains voltages should
not be used by children. Therefore, be especially careful when children
are around.
Use the product where it is out of reach of children.
• The product is intended for use only in dry, enclosed indoor locations. No
part of the product should become damp or wet; never handle it if your
hands are wet!
With the wall plug transformer/power cable there is also a risk of a poten-
tially fatal electric shock!
• The design of the wall plug transformer complies with safety class II. Only
use a standard mains socket as the voltage source for the wall plug trans-
former.
The mains socket at which the wall plug transformer/mains cable is con-
nected must be easily accessible.
• Only use the wall plug transformer provided to power the docking station.
• Do not pull the power plug from the mains socket by pulling on the cable.
• If the power cable/wall plug transformer is damaged, do not touch it; there
is a danger to life from electric shock!
First, switch off the mains voltage to the mains socket to which the wall
plug transformer/power cable is connected (switch off at the correspond-
ing circuit breaker or remove the safety fuse and then switch off at the
corresponding RCD protective switch, so that the socket is fully discon-
nected from the mains voltage).
Then you can remove the mains plug from the mains socket. Dispose
of the damaged power cable/wall plug transformer in an environment-
friendly way, do not use it any more. Replace it by a power cable/wall plug
transformer of the same design.
• Do not leave packaging material carelessly lying around, since it could
become a dangerous plaything for children.
• Handle the product with care, it can be damaged by impacts, blows, or
accidental falls, even from a low height.
Driver Installation
Your operating system already contains the drivers for the docking station (at least
Window XP or higher), which is why there is no data carrier with drivers enclosed in
the delivery.
Please note that a suitable controller is required for USB 3.0 operation (e.g. integrated
in many modern motherboards or an upgrade is available using an additional plug-in
card). The same applies to eSATA.
Connection to the Computer
Place the docking station on a flat, level, stable surface. The docking station with the
hard drives installed must not tip over; the installed hard drives will be damaged by this
(especially when the docking station is switched on and the hard drives are in use).
Protect valuable furniture surfaces by using a suitable mat to prevent scratches or
pressure points.
When using the eSATA connection of the docking station, you have to make
sure that the eSATA port of your computer is "port multiplier" compatible.
Only then will you be able to use more than one hard drive/SSD on an eSATA
port. If the "Port Multiplier" function is not available, only one of the three
slots of the docking station can be used for one hard drive/SSD. If more than
one hard drive/SSD is inserted, the computer will not recognise them. In
such cases always use the USB 3.0 connection.
If the eSATA port is not hotswap compatible, the docking station may be
connected to or disconnected from the computer/switched off only when
the computer is switched off.
Otherwise, the hard drives/SSDs in the docking station may not be recog-
nised. Furthermore, there is a risk of data loss when unplugging or switch-
ing off the docking station!
New hard drives/SSDs have to be partitioned and formatted before putting
them into operation, see chapter "Partitioning/formatting a hard drive/SSD".
a) eSATA
• Switch the docking station off.
• Disconnect the USB connection from the docking station, if available.
• Connect the eSATA port via the eSATA cable enclosed to an eSATA port on your
computer.
• Connect the wall plug transformer enclosed via the mains cable to the mains volt-
age.
• Put the round low voltage plug of the wall plug transformer in the respective socket
on the docking station.
• Insert one or more SATA hard drives/SSDs in the docking station.
• Switch on the docking station.
If your computer is switched on and the hard drives/SSDs are not recog-
nised, the eSATA port of your computer may not support the "Hotswap"
function. Exit the operating system and switch off your computer. Wait a
few seconds and switch the computer on again (docking station must be
switched on).
If you have inserted more than one hard drive/SSD in the docking station and
only one of them is recognised, the eSATA port of your computer does not
support the "Port Multiplier" function. In such cases use the USB 3.0 port to
operate the docking station.
b) USB 3.0
• Switch the docking station off.
• Disconnect the eSATA connection from the docking station, if available.
• Connect the USB 3.0 port via the USB 3.0 cable enclosed to a USB 3.0 port on your
computer.
• Connect the wall plug transformer enclosed via the mains cable to the mains volt-
age.
