5 Setup and function

5.1 Functional description

The cabinet sample module series SAM-1000_DP2 is used to connect different sample points to analys-
ers . Because of its modular design, it can be used for various applications in the chemical and petro-
chemical industries for gaseous high-purity gases .

The SAM-1000_DP2 especially distinguishes itself through the following features:

• Digitisation of the complete product measurement
• Control of external analysers (not Profi bus-capable)
The SAM-1000_DP2 can be equipped with up to 8 sample streams (S1-S8) to a maximum of 7 analysers
(A1-A7) . By default, the inputs and outputs of the measurement gas are fi tted with Swagelok fi ttings on
the back side .
One sample gas valve and one bypass valve are actuated for every sample point . The sample gas valve
route the gas to the analysis system . In automatic mode (DCS operation), ensure that one sample gas
valve is always activated to continuously supply the analysis system with gas . The functionality of the
bypass valve is to purge the sample stream before each measuring procedure of the activated stream .
The mechanical fl owmeter displays the current fl ow of each sample stream and will be adjusted by an
integrated needle valve . The duration and amount of the sample purge procdure is pre-calculated based
on line length, cross section and product type .
Each sample point is equipped with a mechanical fl owmeter to continuously purge the sample stream .
The quantity can be regulated by a needle valve .
The sample gas pressure is adjusted mechanically by the back pressure regulator . The adjusting screw is
accessible via the hole in the front plate . The pressure can be adjusted by an Allen Key (size 4) . The actual
value is determined by a pressure transducer and can be read on the display . The pressure transmitter is
confi gured for a threshold value depending on the application . This threshold value activates the pres-
sure alarm in the system . The fl ow at the back pressure regulator's outlet is displayed on the front side
by a mechanical fl owmeter without a needle valve .
The sample module SAM-1000_DP2 is a Profi bus slave . The valves can be controlled in "local" operation
by the SAM-1000_DP2 or DCS touch screen or in DCS operation via the DP master .
Filter frits protect gas routed components and analysers . These fi lter contaminants from the sample gas and
thus prevent contamination and damage to the gas routed components and analysers .
Using the compact solenoid valve block minimises dead volume, with or without capillary purge line,
and achieves fast response times of the analytical system . This system is the best solution in gas trace
analysis, for example . Check valves on the continuous bypass avoid infl uences of ambient air in the ex-
haust gas line during the vacuum mode . Comply with the prescribed differential pressure according to
the manufacturer's instructions!
