6. Setting Up the Instrument
6.1 Location
» Place the instrument on a provided keyboard stand (Q).
Refer to the assembly steps provided at the back of this user
manual. Alternatively place the instrument on a flat and
leveled surface such as a table.
» When using power adapter as a main power source, place
the instrument close to a power source as to avoid use of an
extension cord as it could create a risk of tripping over.
» Find a place that is easy to get to, that allows plenty of
elbow room and has good lighting.
» Avoid placing the instrument up against a conjoining walls.
This instrument can be loud, and bass frequencies can travel
through walls.
» Note that a room and its furnishings will contribute to the
sound of this instrument. For example, reflective surfaces
such as walls or wooden floors will make the sound more
reverberant or brighter. In contrast, thick carpets and heavy
curtains can absorb high-frequencies, resulting in a darker or
deadened sound.
6.2 Correct posture when playing the instrument
Center the piano stool to the width of the keyboard. The stool
must face the piano squarely. Sit toward the front half of the
stool with both feet firmly on the floor. Relax feet and keep
them flat on the ground from heel to toe. Keep weight centered
on your buttocks. Relax shoulders and arms, keep your back
straight, and sit so that you can smoothly move everything up
to your fingertips. If you can comfortably touch both ends of the
keyboard with only a slight feeling of stretch in the chest then
you are sitting at the right distance.
In terms of height, an adjustable stool is best but if not
available, a cushion is fine – make sure that your forearm and
wrist make a straight line. It is difficult to play with your wrists
and elbows positioned much lower than the keyboard. Adjust
the height of the piano stool so that your elbows are almost
level with the keyboard.
