Die Produktion des Tiger begann im Sommer
1942, die Deutsche
Armee versuchte in diesem
jahr
an der Ostfront Stalingrad einzunehmen.
Gleichzeitig war das Afrika-Corps unter Führung von Feldmarschall Rom-
mel an
der
Nordafrikafront in Kämpfe verwickelt.
Rommel hatte in dieser
Zeit eine wirkungsvolle Waffe gegen die "lvlaterialschlacht"
der Alliierten
gefordert. Das Deutsche Verteidigungsministerium
kam daher dere Anfor-
derung der Deutschen Soldaten nach und rüstete zwei schwere Panzerba-
