5) Depress the Pause Lever and then depress the Record and
Playback Levers at the same time.
(The Dolby Noise-Reduction Indication Lamp lights up when the
Dolby Noise-Reduction Switch is set to the "IN" position.
6) Adjust the recording level.
7) Depress and release the Pause Lever and the recording will begin.
8) To stop the recording, depress the Stop Lever.

@ Recording through the Built-in Microphones
©The built-in condenser microphones of this unit are non-directional,
so that recordings can be made regardless of the direction they are
facing.
1) Set the Function Selector to the "TAPE" position.
2) Follow the same procedure as described in step (2)~(8) of the
section ''Recording Radio Broadcasts".
@ Recording through the External Microphones
Connect optional external microphones to the Microphone Jacks.
The Built-in Microphones will be automatically disconnected. (To
switch the microphones on and off at a distance from the set,
connect a remote control switch to the Remote Control Connection
Jack.)
Follow the same procedure as described in section 'Recording
through the Built-in Microphones".

Notes:
@When
external microphones are connected to the Micro-
phone Jacks, the Built-in Microphones are automatically
disconnected and no recording can be made through them.
@Use two microphones which both have the same specifica-
tions.
@ Monaural recording
To make a monaural recording, set the Mode Selector to the "MONO"
position, and then proceed in the same way as for a stereo recording.
@When using one external microphone
Since the sound is recorded from the built-in microphone at the side
which is not connected, set the Mode Selector to the "STEREO"
position, set the Recording-Mode
Selector to the "MANUAL"
position, and rotate the Recording Level Adjustment Control at the
side which is not connected to the "MIN" position. With these settings
for playback, the sound will be heard through only one of the speakers.
To listen to the sound through both speakers, simply set the Mode
Selector to the "MONO" position.
@ Recording from External Equipment (Refer to page45.)
1) Connect the output terminals of the external equipment to the
Microphone Jacks, Phono Input Jacks or DIN Connector Jack.
2) According to the source connected, set the Function Selector and
Input Selector to the suitable position.
Follow the same procedure as described in step (2)~(8) of the
section "Recording Radio Broadcasts"'.

Notes:
@When
recording from a TV, telephone, etc., sound will
recorded through the built-in microphone corresponding to
the side to which the connection is not made. To prevent this,
set the Mode Selector to the "STEREO" position, set the
Recording Mode selector to the "MANUAL" position, and set
the Recording-Level
Control for the side to which the
connection is not made all the way to its minimum position.
When sound is played back, it will be heard through one
speaker only. To listen through both speakers, set the Mode
Selector to the "MONO" position.
®Do not connect both a DIN connection cord and ordinary
connection cords to this unit at the same time because to do
so will result in abnormal oscillation from the amplifier, and
recording and playback will be impossible.
@Note that a DIN connection cord cannot be used to connect
this unit with another tape deck because a complete circuit is
not made.
eAfter setting the Volume Control to its minimum position,
adjust the volume and tone of the stereo amplifier.
@When a record player or a turntable with an MM (Moving
Magnet) cartridge is connected to the Phono Input Jacks
(Function Selector at PHONO/DIN IN position, Input Selector
at PHONO position), the model works as a stereo amplifier,
and the sound is that of such an amplifier.
Should the hum noise feel too high in such cases, disconnect
the power plug, reverse the prongs and re-connect.
@ Erasure of Recordings
When
recording previously recorded signals on the tape will be
automatically erased. To erase a tape without re-recording, use the
following procedure. (Make no connections to any jacks.)
1) Set the Function Selector to the "TAPE" position.
2) Adjust the Tape Selector.
3) Set the Recording-Mode Selector to the "MANUAL" position.
4) Adjust the Recording
Level adjustment Controls and Volume
Control to the minimum level.
5) Depress the Record and Playback Levers at the same time.
