POWER SOURCE
This unit operates from any of three sources. 8 "'D" size dry batteries,
AC household power, or a car or boat battery.
@ Battery Operation:
1) Open the battery compartment cover by depressing its two latches
and pulling it toward you.
2) Insert 8 ''D" size (National UM-1 or equivalent) batteries into the
battery compartment, making sure that the polarities are aligned
correctly.
3) Replace the compartment cover.
Note:
To operate on battery power, be sure to disconnect the AC
power cord from the AC socket and household AC power
outlet.
eBattery life
When the batteries are flat, the tape speed will slow down markedly,
the sound will be distorted, and you will not be able to turn the volume
up high.
Set the Meter Selector to the ""TUNE/BATT" position and depress the
Playback Lever. If fewer than 4 LEDs light up as in the figure, it means
itis time to replace all the batteries with new ones.

Note:
When the Function Selector and the other switches are being
used, the LEDs may light up. This does not, however, indicate
that anything is wrong with the model.
m AC Power Operation
1) First check the AC Voltage Selector to ascertain if your set is
adjusted to your household AC voltage. If not, readjust by rotating
the selector with a screwdriver.

2) Connect the accessory AC power cord to the AC socket and your
household AC electrical outlet: On plugging the power cord into the
AC socket, operation changes from battery to AC.
Note:
When RX-5500LE is used from an AC power source, set the
Mains Switch to the "ON" position.

@ Car/Boat Battery Operation:
1) Insert the plug of acar battery adaptor cord into the DC Input Jack.
2) Plug the other end into the cigarette lighter socket in your car or
boat.
This automatically disconnects the internal batteries and the
receiver operates on external DC power only.
Note:
For the connection of an adaptor cord, follow the instructions
provided with it.
