Emissivity
Pyrometers and thermal imaging cameras are checked on a calibration source which
corresponds as far as possible to the ideal blackbody radiator with an emissivity of 1.
Elaborate cavity constructions are used for this purpose. The CS 1200/CS 1500
calibration sources use such a construction with a high (approx. 0.99) but not ideal
emissivity. With this construction, the required emissivity settings on the device under
test or the resulting deviations between the temperature display on the device under test
(with fixed emissivity setting, e.g. 1) and the radiator temperature should always be taken
into account. Both the emissivity of the calibration source and the correlation between
emissivity misadjustment and temperature measurement error are wavelength dependent
and thus also dependent on the pyrometer or infrared camera type. Please contact our
customer service if required.
