Assembly, Operation and Maintenance
1. General
Expansion vessels of the SpiroExpand EVSan_D series prevent the opening and thus the incrustation of the safety valves
while water is being heated, so valuable water is no longer lost during the heat-up phase. Constantly stricter hygienic
requirements are fulfilled through the special flow-through design.
A safety expansion vessel comprises of two chambers which are separated by means of a membrane. In SpiroExpand
vessels, a high-quality EPDM bladder membrane is used which ensures the system medium is completely enclosed.
Contact with the metal wall of the container is avoided, which prevents any deterioration of the container wall. In EVSan_D
expansion vessels, the membrane is interchangeable.
2. Intended use
SpiroExpand EVSan_D expansion vessels are used primarily in closed hot water sanitary systems (service water). For
details on selecting the suitable SpiroExpand expansion vessel, see "Technical Manual Expansion Vessels", downloadable
from

3. Assembly
The vessel is for mounting on the wall or for placing on the floor, depending on the type - Installation position: Connection
flange at the bottom! In both cases, adequate load-bearing capacity of the wall or floor must be assured (assuming the
weight of a FULL expansion vessel). For wall mounting, use of the two 8x70 mm frame screws and wall plugs supplied is
recommended (depending on the wall structure!). Use in regions prone to earthquakes is not permitted!
The connection should be made via two maintenance units (1) (see "Maintenance" section) according to the diagram and
should be free of tension (additional loads are not permitted). The throttle valve must be closed sufficiently to ensure flow
through the vessel, while the required total flow through the system is not affected.
4. Hydraulic connection
As use in drinking water systems is intended, professional drinking water installation must be observed, and the relevant
pertinent regulations and standards must be taken into account (e.g., BS EN 806, Part 1 to 5)! The hydraulic connection
must be done in the cold-water supply to the water heater; using the hot water side is not permitted on grounds of hygiene.
Stagnation of the drinking water must be reliably avoided, so that unhygienic effects on the drinking water are ruled out.
Constant high ambient temperatures at the vessel's installation location (e.g., 30 °C or higher), cold water heating up as a
result, and accompanied by too-low water consumption (use less often than once every 72 hours) may have a negative
effect on water hygiene and lead e.g., to the generation of odours.
The expansion vessel itself is not the cause of this and a warranty is excluded for this reason. Instead, check the drinking
water system for execution according to local standards and change to the latest technical level where necessary!
Installation of a throttle valve ensures flow through the reservoir.
