3.2.1
Fitting an insert
NOTICE
i
i
Only use the communication unit when an insert has been fitted!
If the radio connector cable is not used (e.g. during practice
exercises or cleaning), fit the dummy insert into the
communication unit.
1. Make sure that the communication unit is switched off.
2. Make sure that the sealing on the insert is correctly aligned (see
page 5, Figure D). It must not be missing, contaminated or damaged.
3. Apply a small amount of silicone grease (Dräger recommends
Molykote 111) to the sealing to ensure the insert is sitting correctly
and maximum tightness is guaranteed.
4. Fit the insert into the communication unit and screw tight (Allen key
2 mm, torque: 0.3 Nm, see page 5, Fig. E).
3.2.2
Fitting the communication unit onto the full face mask
When the communication unit is to be fitted for the first time:
a. Remove the screw from the connection piece on the full face
mask if necessary.
b. Dismantle the cap and exhalation valve cover from the full face
mask.
c. For full face masks with P connection piece:
Insert the button of the full face mask into the mount for the
communication unit (see page 6, Fig. H).
d. Hook the mount for the communication unit into the visor
frame of the full face mask (see page 6, Fig. K) and fasten it
with the supplied screw (see page 6, Fig. L).
When the mount for the communication unit is fitted:
a. Slide the communication unit onto the connection piece
parallel to the edge of the mount and hook it into the visor
frame of the full face mask (see page 6, Fig. M). The
communication unit is fitted correctly when no gap can be
seen between the mount and the communication unit.

b. Switch on the communication unit and check that it is
functioning before it is used.

Preparations before each use
3.3.1
Checking readiness for use
Perform the following steps before using the communication unit:
1. If necessary, establish a connection to the radio:
Connect the communication unit to the radio via the universal
cable or direct cable.
Or
Connect the communication unit and radio via Bluetooth (see
chapter 3.3.2 on page 31).
2. Switch on the radio and initially adjust the volume to a low setting.
3. Switch on the communication unit.
4. Check the voice amplifier unit: The volume of spoken words must
be amplified.
5. Adjust the volume of the radio such that an incoming signal does
not cause hearing damage.
6. Press the push-to-talk button on the communication unit or the
PTT/RSM unit and check whether the communication is
functioning.
3.3.2
Connecting the communication unit and radio via
Bluetooth
The insert for the Bluetooth connection must be fitted. Depending on
whether a new connection or a previous connection is to be
established, proceed as follows:
Establishing a new connection (pairing)
1. Set the radio to pairing mode.
2. Switch on the Bluetooth pairing mode of the communication unit:
To do so, hold down the ON/OFF button and Push-to-Talk button
at the same time, until the LED flashes blue (see page 2, blink
pattern 4).
