Technical description
The Dräger FPS-COM 7000 is a communication unit for full face
masks in the Dräger FPS 7000 series with P, RA and PE/ESA
connections. The communication unit includes a microphone, a
maximum of two earphones and two voice amplifier unit loudspeakers.
The communication unit can filter out interference using modern
language algorithms.
The communication unit has the following functions, which may be
used independently of each other:
Voice amplifier unit
TeamTalk
Headset for a tactical radio
The communication unit is configured and updated using C7
configuration software.
The communication unit shuts down automatically if no activity is
recorded. The automatic shut-down function can be interrupted see
chapter 3.4.2 on page 32.
2.2.2
Functional principle of the "voice amplifier unit"
The voice amplifier unit loudspeakers plays back the voice of the mask
wearer. This simplifies communication with other persons in the
immediate vicinity because a speaker's voice is transmitted directly and
any distortion caused by the mask body is minimised.
The voice amplifier unit loudspeaker can be switched off when not
required (see chapter 3.1.6 on page 30). For example, we recommend
Dräger FPS-COM 7000
switching off the voice amplifier unit loudspeaker during operation in a
chemical protective suit.
Permanently switching off the loudspeaker or muting with the push-to-
talk button can be configured in the C7 configuration software.
2.2.3
"TeamTalk" functional principle
The "TeamTalk" function is used for the convenient transmission of
operational voice communication within a task force. This is what sets
it apart from the tactical radio (e.g. issuing orders).
Several Dräger FPS-COM 7000 units can communicate with each
other in a group via TeamTalk in a country-specific frequency range.
Groups can consist of up to 10 members, of which two persons can
speak at the same time. The other group members are able to listen to
the conversation. Each communication unit allows up to 10 different
groups to be stored. Of this number up to 7 groups can work in parallel
within a single frequency range. The radius in which the maximum
number of groups is possible depends heavily on the environment (see
page 4, Fig. B and C). Each communication unit is assigned to a
specific group. When the communication unit is switched on, it
automatically searches for other communication units belonging to the
same group. If necessary, the user can manually set up another group
or switch the TeamTalk function to standby.
NOTICE

i
Communication units with a 3.X firmware version are not
compatible with communication units with a 4.X firmware
version. Using both units will require the units to be updated
(see chapter 5.2.5 on page 38).
2.2.4
"Headset for a tactical radio" functional principle
The communication unit can be used as a headset for a connected
tactical radio. The radio can be connected via a universal cable, a
direct cable or a Bluetooth connection.
