What to do if there is a fire
What to do if there is a fire
A fire in your own four walls can happen to anyone. It is then all the more impor-
:
tant to know exactly what to do
What to do if an alarm sounds
Keep calm.
Warn any other people in the flat/house.
Leave the flat/house immediately. Every second
counts – do not waste time looking for
documents or valuables. Just a few breaths of
toxic fire smoke are fatal. If handy, take only your
smartphone and flat/house key with you
Close doors after leaving the room
Use smoke-free escape routes, do not use lifts.
Do not open any doors without first checking the
surface. If the surface is hot or smoke can be seen
under the door, do not open this door. Use an
alternative escape route if necessary.
If the surface of the door is cool, open the door
slightly and be ready to slam the door shut if
heat, flames and/or smoke come in
Stay close to the ground, especially in smoky air.
If possible, breathe through a damp cloth
