RECORDING LEVEL ADJUSTMENT
Higher recording level is usually advantageous in obtaining a
recording that gives better S/N ratio and wider dynamic range. If
the level is so high as to reach the magnetic saturation point,
however, sound will be recorded with increased distortion. While
watching the Level Meter, adjust the recording level properly so
that the Level Meter, adjust the recording level properly so that
the Level Meter's pointer may be deflecting at most within the
"A" range indicated in the illustration.

Gegerally, indicators of level meters аге unable to respond to
instantaneous signals. Therefore, indicators of level meters may
oscillate in the O VU range and there are cases in which the
sound may be momentarily distorted or split up during playback
even if the clear recording is intended to be made. This means
that the level meters do not exceed the О VU meter indication
due to the fact that the sound at higher level enters in fact. This
PEAK indicator serves to avoid such a trouble. Recording should
be started after adjusitng the recording level in order to not turn
on the PEAK indicator during recording.
The level which peak indicator light up is +5 dB. As shown on
Fig., the relation between input level and+the percentage of
distortion is different. By the adjustment for lighting of peak
indicator in accordance with tape, the better SN ratio can be
obtained and the recording with less distortion of sound
becomes possible.

Tape Counter
Before recording, press the RESET button to obtain a 000 TAPE
COUNTER display. As the tape runs, make a note of the
counter indication at desired portions of the tape. This will aid
in locating particular passages later.
Tape Dubbing
It is recommended to perform dubbing by using this machine for
recording and a second tape deck for playback. Connect the
LINE OUT jacks of the second deck to the LINE IN jacks of this
deck. Perform recording as described in the section on RE-
CORDING.
Special circuitry in this tape deck allows it to perform DIN jack
to DIN jack dubbing (not possible with earlier tape decks). In
this case, be sure to use this tape deck for the recording
function.

Erasing Tape
If a tape recorded program is no longer required, a new recording
can be made onto the same tape. The earlier program becomes
erased and replaced by the new program.
To completely erase a tape, set the RECORD LEVEL controls to
O and perform recording. This will completely erase the tape.
Erase Protector Mechanism
This tape deck is equipped with a mechanism for preventing
accidental erasure of a valuable recording. To employ it, break
off the cassette tab (see figure) corresponding to the desired side.
When broken off, recording cannot be performed even if the
RECORD key is pressed, thus preventing the tape from being
erased. Avoid applying unnecessary force to the RECORD key,
as it may be damaged.
To again record on a cassette which has a broken off tab, cover
the tab opening with cellophane tape.

CLEANING
Use over a long period of time, the head surface, the capstan and
the pinch roller become contaminated with magnetic powder
dust and other foreign materials.
This results in deterioration of tone quality and sensitivity as
well as unstable tape travel.
So, clean them with the cleaning stick (swab) two times or
three a month. When extremely dirty, clean them with the
cleaning stick moistened with good-quality alcohol. For cleaning
of the whole casing, use a soft piece of cloth dipped in a neutral
detergent solution.
