TROUBLESHOOTING
In any system state (armed or charging), the JetForce SC provides compre-
hensive self-diagnosis. Warnings or errors are indicated by the Red AND
Orange System Status Lights (Figure 6 and 7):
To troubleshoot, follow these steps in order. Check for normal operation
after each step:
1. Turn the system off and turn it back on.
2. Connect the Micro USB Charging Cable (1m) to the USB Charging Port (1h)
and leave system connected until you see a blinking green Charge Status
Light (1e). Afterward disconnect the USB Charging Cable and arm the sys-
tem (refer to ARMING THE SYSTEM).
3. If you do not see a blinking green Charge Status Light (1e) contact your
pack manufacturer´s service center for assistance.

CARE AND MAINTENANCE
• The Pieps JetForce SC Backpack must not come into contact with corro-
sive materials such as but not limited to battery acid, battery fumes, sol-
vents, chlorine bleach, antifreeze, isopropyl alcohol or gasoline.
• If you need to clean your pack, use a damp cloth and mild detergent to spot
clean the specific area. Take care not to get the pack overly wet. When fin-
ished cleaning, open any affected pockets, hang the pack, and allow to air
dry before use.
• Do not crush, puncture or subject the SuperCapacitor (1l) or Inflation Unit
(1j) to excessive mechanical shock or vibration.
• Remove the two AA batteries after the end of each season to prevent
corrosion. Follow the instructions in the CHARGING section at the start of
each season.
STORAGE & TRANSPORT
Storage
• Always store the Pieps JetForce SC Backpack in a cool (< 23°C/73°F), dry
location, out of direct sunlight, and away from heat sources.
• Prevent damage from sharp objects, animals, corrosive materials, and mil-
dew.
Transport
• Ensure the system is disarmed/off and the Deployment Handle (1c) is
stowed within the Deployment Handle Pocket (1b) with the zipper closed
before riding a ski lift, tram, airplane, helicopter, snowcat or any vehicle
and before entering small, confined spaces.
• Protect the Pieps JetForce SC Backpack from sharp objects, abrasion, and
crushing forces during transportation.
• At the time of this printing, the Pieps JetForce SC Backpack is not con-
sidered a Dangerous Good Under the Dangerous Goods Regulations and
should not have travel restrictions. For commercial airline travel, always
check current travel regulations before your trip.
INSPECTION, RETIREMENT, LIFESPAN, AND DISPOSAL
Inspection

If you deploy your airbag in an avalanche, perform a thorough inspection
6
Required Action
• Recharge SuperCapacitor
• Turn the system off.
• Inspect the Airbag compartment
zipper and ensure it is not
blocked.
• Open the Airbag compartment
zipper and ensure that the
airbag is folded properly.
• Check the Air Release Knob to
ensure it is not blocked in the
open position.
• Check to ensure that the
compressor cover is closed and
nothing is blocking the Inflation
Unit wheel.
• Make sure you have new
batteries.
before using the system again.
1. Inspect the airbag for punctures or tears.
2. Inspect the Inflation Unit (1j) for cracks or dents.
3. Inspect the Deployment Handle (1c) to ensure it is in the proper position
(Figure 8) and is free of damage.
4. Inspect the AA Battery compartment (1r) for corrosion and proper instal-
lation of batteries.
5. Inspect the backpack for punctures or tears.
6. Inspect the backpack shoulder straps, leg strap, and waist belt for tears or
damaged stitching.
7. After repacking the airbag, arm the system and check system status.
If the inspection reveals signs of damage or if you have any doubts about
the dependability of your Pieps JetForce SC Backpack, contact your pack
manufacturer's customer service center.
Retirement
Damaged gear must be repaired before use or retired and destroyed to pre-
vent future use. Contact your pack manufacturer's customer service center
if:
• The Pieps JetForce SC Backpack's Inflation Unit does not arm properly
or does not deploy the airbag properly. Perform the procedures in the
Troubleshooting section of this manual before contacting your pack man-
ufacturer's customer service center.
• Airbag is damaged and will not hold air.
• Structural webbing or bar tacks are torn, abraded, cut, melted or burnt.
• If you have any doubts about the dependability of your gear, retire it.
Lifespan
The JetForce SC System is certified for 50 full deployments. With normal
use and proper care the typical lifespan of a Pieps JetForce SC Backpack
is five years. The actual lifespan can be longer or shorter depending on
how frequently you use it and on the conditions of its use. The maximum
lifespan of a Pieps JetForce SC Backpack is up to 10 years from the date of
manufacture, even if unused and properly stored. Upon reaching the rated
number of deployments or maximum lifespan, the pack must be retired and
destroyed to prevent future use. Factors that will reduce the lifespan of a
Pieps JetForce SC Backpack: Falls, abrasion, wear, prolonged exposure to
sunlight, salt water/air, corrosive chemicals, harsh environments or misuse
of the Inflation Unit or SuperCapacitors.
