REVERSE BACK TENSION CHECK
Notes:
1. Make measurements with the torque gauge se-
curely on the reel. If the torque gauge is not se-
cure, it will not be possible to obtain an accurate
reading.
2. The reverse back tension is the same as the V/S
REV back tension, so if the V/S REV back tension
has already been checked there is no need to
make the present check.
e Checking
1. Remove the cassette housing and hold down the
CASSETTE
DOWN
button with adhesive tape.
2. Press the REV
button to enter the REVERSE
mode.
3. Put the torque gauge on the take-up reel and
slowly rotate it to the left (1 turn every 2 to 3 se-
conds). Verify that the torque is within the speci-
fied values (less than 15 g.cm.).
V/S-FWD BACK TENSION CHECK
Notes:
1. Check and adjust the V/S-FWD back tension af-
ter adjusting the position of the tension arm.
2. Make measurements with the torque gauge se-
curely on the reel. If the torque gauge is not se-
cure, it wil! not be possible to obtain an accurate
reading.
3. If the V/S-FWD
back tension is not within the
specified values (10 — 20 g.cm), adjust the aux-
iliary brake spring and recheck.
° Checking
1. Remove the cassette housing.
2. Hold down the CASSETTE
DOWN
button with
adhesive tape.
3. Press the PLAY button to enter the PLAY mode.
4. Press the FF PLAY button to enter the V/S-FWD
mode, and check that the auxiliary brake is act-
ing on the supply reel.
5. Set the torque gauge on the supply reel and ro-
tate slowly (about 1 turn every 2 to 3 seconds).
Measure the torque and verify it is within the
specified values (10 — 20 g.cm).
V/S-REV BACK TENSION CHECK
Notes:
1. Make measurements with the torque gauge se-
curely on the reel. If the torque gauge is not se-
cure, it will not be possible to obtain an accurate
reading.
2. The V/S-REV
back tension is the same
as the
reverse back tension, so if the reverse back ten-
sion has already been measured there is no need
to make the present check.

2. Hold down the CASSETTE
DOWN
button with
adhesive tape.
3. Press the PLAY button to enter the PLAY mode.
4. Press the REV PLAY button to enter the V/S-REV
mode.
5. Set the torque gauge on the take-up reel and ro-
tate slowly (about 1 turn every 2 to 3 seconds).
Measure the torque and verify it is within the

PINCH ROLLER ENGAGEMENT FORCE CHECK
1. Remove the cassette housing and hold down the
CASSETTE
DOWN
button with adhesive tape.
2. Press the PLAY button to enter the PLAY mode.
3. Pull the pinch roller in the direction opposite to the
direction of engagement (arrow A), and separate the
pinch roller from the capstan.
4. Then, gradually return the pinch roller (arrow B) and
measure the tension when the pinch roller contacts
the capstan. (For this measurement,
pull hole "a"
_
with a tension gauge rod.)
5. Check that the measured value is within the speci-
fied values (1480 —
1870g).
