PRECAUTIONS
Safety
@Before
operating, check that the voltage selector is set to your
local power source.
@ Should any liquid or solid object fall into the cabinet, unplug the
set and have it checked by qualified personnel before operating it
any further.
@Unplug the set from the wall outlet if it is not to be used for an
extended period of time.
@To disconnect the cord, pull it out with the plug.
Never pull the
cord itself.
installation
@ This recorder is designed for vertical operation only.
@Good
air circulation is essential to prevent internal heat build-up.
Place the set in a location with adequate
air circulation.
Do not
place the set in an enclosed cabinet that would block the ventila-
tion holes on the back and top.
@Do
not install the set in a location
near heat sources
such as
radiators or airducts, or in a place subject to direct sunlight, exces-
sive dust, mechanical vibration or shock.
Operation
@After the timer-activated
recording is finished, do not forget to
slide the REC TIMER
LOCK lever back to the left to release the
RECORD
buttons before starting any other operation.
If playback
is started with the lever inadvertently set to the right (this means
RECORD
buttons are locked), pre-recorded materials will be erased
regardless of your intention, because the recorder has not been
changed to playback mode but remains locked in record mode.
@ Thread the tape without slack and set the tension arms in operat-
ing (vertical) position.
If there is slack in the tape, the function
button does not lock.
@ The record/playback (DIN) inputs are common to the microphone
signal path. So if you connect the input source to the REC/PB jack,
use MIC level controls.
If the MIC and REC/PB jacks are simulta-
neously connected, the REC/PB input is automatically cut off.
@The
microphone
inputs and line inputs can be used simultane-
ously for mixing.
To record only through microphone or line inputs,
turn the unused level controls (MIC or LINE) fully to MIN.
@ Usually set the PB LEVEL control at center click position.
If you have any question or problem about your set, consult your
nearest Sony dealer or Sony Service Station.
FUNCTION
OF CONTROLS
@ Tape-height adjusters (both supply and take-up sides)
If the tape rubs the reel edge, tape height can
be adjusted
with
these screws;
clockwise rotation will raise the tape and counter-
clockwise rotation will lower it. Before adjusting, check both sup-
ply and take-up reels.
If they are warped, replace them.
@ Reel spindles with reel locks
Insert the tape reel hole in the spindle.
Line up and turn the spline
of the spindle to lock the reel firmly.
© Tension arms (both supply and take-up sides)
These arms maintain uniform tape tension.
When
all the tape are
wound and the tension arm is released to horizontal position, tape
transport mechanism
will stop.
@ PAUSE lever
To pause
momentarily
in playback or recording (to eliminate
un-
desired portions), depress
down the PAUSE
lever.
The lamp will
light. Tape will stop (tape-and-head contact remains).
To restart,
move
it upward.
This lever is also used for proper timing of the
recording.
For instantaneous recording, depress the PAUSE
lever
first and
then set the recorder in record mode.
At the moment
when you wish to record, move the PAUSE lever upward.
Record-
ing will begin immediately.
@ REEL SIZE selector
Select the optimum
rewind
tension
and reel torque for the reel
used: The "10" position is for 10 1/2-inch (270 mm) reels, and "7"
is for 7-inch (180 mm) or 5-inch (130 mm) reels.
Use the same size
reels for both supply and take-up.
@ TAPE SPEED selector
For high quality recording, "7 1/2 ips" (19 cm/s) is recommended.
Recording at "3 3/4 ips" (9.5cm/s) extends recording time.
Change
the speed only in stop mode.
VOLTAGE ADAPTATION
The TC-755A operates on either 110, 127, 220 or 240 V ac.
Before connection, check if your recorder is set to the same
volt-
age as your local power line.
The factory preset voltage is shown
on the voltage selector located at the rear panel.
If it is different
from that of your local power source, reset it.
WARNING:
Disconnect
the ac power cord plug from the outlet
before proceeding.
1. Turn the fuse-holder cap counterclockwise using a coin and re-
move
it.
2. Pull out the round voltage selector and reposition so that proper
voltage figure appears in the selector cutout.
3. Reinsert the fuse-holder.
Line frequency change is not necessary as the TC-755A has an ac
servo-controlled motor.
