@ REVERSE MODE switch
Normal mode ({ =~ ) — In this position, one side play-
back or recording is possible. When the end of tape
is reached, the operation mode is released and the
tape stops.

Reverse
mode

) —
In this position, both sides
can be played back or recorded. In this mode, opera-
tion does not automatically change from side B to
side A.
Endless mode ( C> ) — In this position, tape is played
back repeatedly.

@ Tape COUNTER and RESET button
The tape counter provides a means of locating passages
on the tape. When starting a recording set the counter
"000" by depressing the reset button.
@® REC/ARM key and indicator
Press this key to start recording. The indicator lights. It is
not necessary to press the forward play (>) or reverse
play (<1) key. The recording mode can only be entered
from the stop mode. The recording direction is indicated
by the direction indicators (<->). To change the record-
ing direction, press the forward play (>) or reverse play
(<1) key, press the stop key (LD), then press this key.
When this key is pressed once, the unit enters the re-
cording
mode
and recording starts. When
this key is
pressed twice, the rec muting feature provides a non-re-
corded section of about 5 seconds and the tape stops in
the operation stand-by mode. Vvhen this key is kept
pressed in operation condition, the non-recorded section
continues.

When
the tape reaches its end in the forward direction (side A) re-
cording mode with the REVERSE MODE switch set to reverse (2)
or endless (C7), the recording automatically continues on the other
side (side B). Recording cannot continue from side B to side A.
@ REC PAUSE key and indicator
When this key is pressed during recording, the recording
stops temporarily. The indicator lights. To resume
re-
cording, press the REC/ARM key.

@ PEAK LEVEL METERs
Indicate the peak values of the input levels for recording
or the output levels for playback. The indication ranges
from —oo dB to +6 dB. The meters have the function
which shows the peak levels; that is, the LEDs (corre-
sponding to the respective peak levels of right and left
channels) light for long enough to show those levels.
@® REC LEVEL controls
When recording with microphones or with other program
sources (such as a tuner or turntable) connectdd to the
LINE IN jacks, adjust input level while observing the
PEAK LEVEL METERs.
@ Eject button ( 4 )
Pushing this button opens the cassette copmpartment.
@ TIMER stand-by switch
This switch is used along with an audio timer when an
unattended
recording or timer-playback
is performed.
Set this switch to the REC position for unattended re-
cording, to the PLAY position for timer-playback and to
the OFF position when the timer is not used.
@® Direction indicators
Indicate the tape running direction.
@® Fast reverse key (<<)
Press to rewind tape. Tape will move from the right reel
to the left reel at high speed. When this key is pressed
during playback, tunes are skipped in the reverse direc-
tion each time the key is pressed.
@® Stop key (0)
Press to stop tape travel. This will also release the previ-
ous mode of operation.
® Reverse play key (<1)
Press to play the tape in the reverse direction (side B).
