MECHANICAL INSTALLATION
7.1
Important precautions during installation
S
Handle the transducer with care.
S
Note the requirements for the force application parts in accordance with the subse
quent sections of these instructions
S
Welding currents must not be allowed to flow through the transducer. If there is a risk
that this might happen, you must use a suitable low-ohm connection to electrically
bypass the transducer. HBM provides the highly flexible EEK ground cable for this
purpose, for example, that is screwed on above and below the transducer.
S
Make sure that the transducer cannot be overloaded.
WARNING
There is a danger of the transducer breaking if it is exposed to heavy force overshoot. This
can cause danger for the operating personnel of the system in which the transducer is in
stalled.
Implement appropriate safety measures to avoid force overshoots or to protect against
the resulting dangers. The maximum possible mechanical stresses, especially the break
ing force, are noted in the specifications.
When installing and operating the transducers, please note the maximum parasitic forces
- lateral forces, bending and torsional moments; see the specifications and the maximum
permissible load-carrying capacity of the force application parts used.
Notice
Piezoelectric sensors may be damaged if they are loaded with forces greater than 50% of
the nominal (rated) force without being connected to a charge amplifier or short circuited.
Please be aware of this if you apply forces to the sensor during assembly.
7.2
General installation guidelines
The forces to be measured must act on the transducer as accurately as possible in the
direction of measurement.
Bending moments resulting from lateral force, eccentric loading and the lateral forces
themselves, may destroy the transducer if limit values are exceeded. Please note the
limits in the specifications
Please note that you can only make use of a single parasitic load (bending moments, lat
eral forces, torques) up to the limits indicated in the specifications and none of these
components occur elsewhere. If lateral forces, bending moments and torques act on the
