Output Settings
When you connect the microphone to your PC, it may cause audio from other sources to
be cancelled or result in no sound during playback. In such cases, you will need to
manually select "speaker (Realtek High Definition Audio)" as the default playback device
if you want to output computer audio through the built-in speakers.
Adjusting Software Levels
It is advisable to set the microphone level as high as possible without causing overload
to your computer's input. If you notice distortion or consistently overloaded levels
(peaking) in your recording program, you can decrease the mic volume or level using the
gain control on the microphone or computer settings. Conversely, if your recording
program indicates insufficient level, you can increase the mic gain by adjusting the gain
control on the microphone or computer settings.
Software Selection
There are various recording software options available, such as Audacity, which is a
popular free software. However, it's important to note that if you plug in the
microphone after launching Audacity, it may not recognize the microphone properly,
resulting in unsatisfactory recording results. To avoid this, it is recommended to restart
Audacity after connecting the USB of the microphone to your computer and then
selecting the "fifine Microphone" option.
Microphone Positioning
For optimal frequency response, adjust the microphone angle using the thumbscrew to
position it relative to the sound source based on the selected pickup pattern. For
instance, if you choose the cardioid pickup pattern, ensure the microphone is directly
facing the sound source. Experiment with different distances between the microphone
and the sound source to find the best sound quality for your specific setup. It is
generally recommended to maintain an optimal recording distance of 5 to 15
centimeters.
