Installation instructions
• Obey all national safety, accident prevention and
industrial safety regulations when carrying out work
on the device.
• Failure to obey safety instructions may result in a
good deal of property damage, severe health damage
or even danger to life and limb.
• The device may only be commissioned, installed,
modified and retrofitted by a trained electrician.
• Disconnect the (busbar) system from the power sup-
ply before starting work on the device or the loads.
• The layout of the semi-conductor elements means
that there is no complete electrical isolation of the
load from the mains supply. The safety regulations
set out in DGUV V3 (BGVA3) are to be used for work.
• During operations, parts of the electrical switchgear
carry dangerous voltage.
• Safety covers must not be removed from electrical
switchgear during operation.
• Keep the operating instructions in a safe place.
• The device is a piece of related equipment and must
not be installed in potentially explosive atmospheres.
Obey the safety regulations which apply to the instal-
lation and operation of related equipment.
• The device must not be exposed to mechanical or
thermal stresses which exceed the limits described in
the operating instructions.
• If necessary, the device may be installed in an appro-
priate housing with a suitable protection type (for
example IP54) to IEC 60529/EN 60529 to protect it
from mechanical or electrical damage.
• If the device is operated in the presence of dust, it
must be installed in a suitable housing (at least IP64)
to EN 61241.
• It must be installed as described in the operating
instructions. Access to the circuits inside the device is
not permitted during operation.

• The equipment cannot be repaired by the user and
must be replaced by an equivalent device. Repair
work may only be carried out by the device manu-
facturer.
• The device conducts function diagnostics continu-
ously during operation. A warning or error may be
signalled depending on the level of discrepancy.
• Only use power supplies with safe isolation using
PELV voltage to EN 50178 / VDE 0160 (PELV). This
prevents a short-circuit between the primary and
secondary sides.
Area of use
• The OMUS® hybrid switch consists of combinations
of semi-conductor switches and mechanical con-
tacts. The components complement each other: The
semi-conductors enable switching to take place with
zero wear. The mechanical contacts ensure low heat
loss for the duration of the current flow.
• The functions require a sinusoidal current and
voltage characteristic. The OMUS® hybrid switch
is synchronised to the zero crossings. Therefore it
must not be used in circuits with phase control eg.
frequency converters.
• The electronics switch the load on and off at a favour-
able phase angle.
• The synchronisation to the voltages of the various
phases ensures that switching only takes place at
discrete times. The switch on and off commands are
carried out after a delay, the ON period is always a
multiple of 10ms.
• The devices are designed for the frequent switching
of single-pole ohmic loads with the phase against the
neutral conductor and 3-pole ohmic loads.
• It's possible to switch non-motorised loads.
• This is a product for environment A (industry). In
environment B (household) this device may cause
undesirable radio interference; in this case the user
may be obliged to take suitable action.
• The hybrid switch monitors power consumption in
all phases.
