1 For your safety
1.1 General safety statements
● Before using this product, carefully read the Instructions for Use.
● Strictly follow the Instructions for Use. The user must fully understand and
strictly observe the instructions. Use the product only for the purposes
specified in the Intended Use section of this document.
● Do not dispose of the Instructions for Use. Ensure that they are retained
and appropriately used by the product user.
● Only fully trained and competent users are permitted to use this product.
● Comply with all local and national rules and regulations associated with this
product.
● Do not use a faulty or incomplete product, and do not modify the product.
● Notify Dräger in the event of any component fault or failure.
1.2 Definitions of alert icons
Alert icons are used in this document to provide and highlight text that requires
a greater awareness by the user. A definition of the meaning of each icon is as
follows:
WARNING
Indicates a potentially hazardous situation which, if not avoided, could
result in death or serious injury.
CAUTION
Indicates a potentially hazardous situation which, if not avoided, could
result in physical injury or damage to the product or environment. It
may also be used to alert against unsafe practices.
NOTICE
Indicates additional information on how to use the product.
2 Description
2.1 Product overview
The Dräger FPS 7000 HUD is a battery powered head-up display that receives
®
signals from a short-range wireless transmitter on a Dräger breathing
apparatus. The HUD fits inside the mask to provide information to the wearer
using LEDs positioned in the lower right area of the mask visor in the wearer's
line of sight. The HUD displays the breathing apparatus status information on
the LEDs as follows:
● The LEDs, red (Fig 1, Item 2), amber (3), and two green (4), indicate the
cylinder pressure range and provide alert signals at critical pressures. The
tables in Section 3.2.1 show the cylinder pressures indicated by the LEDs.
● The blue LED (5) is the communication LED which flashes to indicate a loss
of communication between the breathing apparatus and the HUD.
● The green and yellow LED (Fig 1, Item 6) is a bi-colour low battery LED.
The LED flashes to indicate a low battery in the HUD (green) or the
breathing apparatus (yellow).
● All six LEDs flash twice simultaneously as the HUD logs on to or logs off
from the breathing apparatus.
● A light dependent resistor (Fig 1, Item 1) automatically dims or brightens
the LEDs in response to the surrounding light.
The LED patterns described in this document are the default settings of the
breathing apparatus.
2.2 Intended use
The FPS 7000 HUD is intended for use with a Dräger FPS
®
Dräger breathing apparatus which has a compatible short range transmitter. It
is intended to provide a head-up display of breathing apparatus information.
This product must only be used under the conditions specified in the approval
certificate.
2.3 Approvals
The European standards, guidelines, and directives according to which this
product is approved are specified in the declaration of conformity (see
declaration of conformity or www.draeger.com/product-certificates).
In addition the product is approved according to the following regulations:
ATEX, UL913, CSA, FCC, IC, RED.
3 Use
3.1 Preparation for use
3.1.1 Fitting or replacing the battery
WARNING
Danger of explosion or fire. Do not remove or install the battery in an
explosive or flammable atmosphere.
Explosion, fire or chemical hazard. Do not expose the battery to heat
sources, do not attempt to recharge any non-rechargeable battery and
do not short out the battery terminals.
Risk of explosion if a battery is replaced by an incorrect type. Use only
the approved battery type.
CAUTION
Environmental hazard. Dispose of used batteries in accordance with
national or local regulations.
● A battery is supplied with the equipment but not fitted. Fit the battery before
use.
● Average battery life is greater than 12 months. The actual life of the battery
is dependent on operating time and ambient temperature.
Approved battery type: Panasonic CR123AL/1BP (3 V lithium battery)

1. Remove the battery cap using a suitable coin (Fig 2).
2. Insert the battery (positive terminal first) (Fig 3).
3. Refit the battery cap securely. Do not over tighten.
3.1.2 Fitting the HUD to the mask
● The user may require practice to master the HUD fitting technique.
● The main body of the HUD is manufactured from a material which has high
mechanical strength and good sliding properties. It is acceptable to slightly
distort the HUD during fitting.
1. Remove the inner mask from the mask as described in the Instructions for
Use provided with the mask.
2. Sit down and hold the mask firmly on your knee.
○ There are two grooves on either side of the mask housing. The narrow
ribs on the arms of the HUD locate into the first groove (Fig 4, Item 1).
3. Align the narrow rib on the left arm into the groove and press down to locate
and lock the arm (Fig 5).

4. Stretch the right arm to the right and lift to align the narrow rib into the
groove. Press down to locate and lock the arm (Fig 6).
5. Ensure that the HUD is correctly and securely located (Fig 7).
6. Refit the inner mask as described in the Instructions for Use provided with
the mask (Fig 8).
3.1.3 Enabling the HUD
Enabling the HUD only applies to breathing apparatus fitted with the
Bodyguard 7000 electronic system. For Dräger TX Gauge and Sentinel 7000
®
products, signal transmission to the HUD is enabled as the default setting.
The default setting for breathing apparatus fitted with Bodyguard
signal transmission to the HUD is disabled to preserve battery life. Before using
the HUD for the first time, enable the breathing apparatus for HUD transmission
7000 mask and a

using the Dräger PC Link Module. Contact Dräger for further information.
3.2 During use
WARNING
The HUD indicates that the cylinder is within a pressure range. Users
must continue to check the exact cylinder pressure shown on the
contents gauge as detailed in the breathing apparatus Instructions for
Use.
NOTICE
The HUD could log on to the incorrect breathing apparatus if multiple
users are in close proximity during start up (in a fire truck for example).
If this occurs, when it is possible, move away from the other breathing
apparatus until the HUD indicates a communication loss and then logs
off. The HUD will then log on to the host breathing apparatus.
Prepare and put on the breathing apparatus as detailed in the Instructions for
Use provided with the breathing apparatus.
Logging on: The HUD logs on automatically when it receives a pressure signal
from the breathing apparatus. Up to approximately 45 seconds after the initial
signal from the breathing apparatus, all six HUD LEDs flash twice to indicate
that it is logged on and receiving status information. Once logged on:
○ The cylinder pressure LEDs illuminate intermittently, on for 15 seconds
and off for 45 seconds, to indicate the pressure range (see the tables
in Section 3.2.1).
○ The HUD remains logged on even if another active breathing
apparatus comes within range.
Communication loss: If the HUD does not receive a pressure signal for
35 seconds, the blue LED will flash continuously to indicate a communication
loss. If no pressure signal is received from the breathing apparatus within
approximately 180 seconds of a communication loss the HUD will log off from
the apparatus.
Low battery: The low battery LED flashes every second to indicate a low
battery. Replace low batteries at the first opportunity.
○ Flashing green indicates a low battery in the HUD. The HUD low
battery indication will also display when the HUD is logged off.
○ Flashing yellow indicates a low battery in the breathing apparatus.

3.3 After use
Shut down and remove the breathing apparatus as detailed in the Instructions
for Use provided with the breathing apparatus.
Logging off: During shut down, when the cylinder pressure falls to the required
pressure (below 8 bar for an EU set, or 100 psi for a US set) the HUD logs off
from the apparatus.
○ Logging off is indicated by all six HUD LEDs flashing twice then
remaining off.
Inspect and clean the HUD as detailed in the maintenance information in
Section 5.
3.3.1 Removing the HUD from the mask
When required, remove the HUD from the mask:
1. Sit down and hold the mask firmly on your knee.
2. Place the thumb of the right hand under the right arm of the HUD, and push
upward and outward from the centre (reversing the arrows in Fig 6) to
release the right arm.
3. Remove the left arm from the opposite side and remove the HUD.
4 Troubleshooting
Contact service personnel or Dräger if the symptom remains after all remedy
actions have been attempted, or if the symptom is not described.

5 Maintenance
5.1 Visual inspection
Visually inspect the HUD housing, LEDs and light dependent resistor for
cleanliness and damage. Report damage to service personnel or Dräger, and
do not use the product until faults are rectified.
5.2 Cleaning
CAUTION
Do not use abrasive cleaning agents or organic solvents, such as
acetone, alcohol, white spirit, trichloroethylene or similar. Do not
immerse the HUD in cleaning or disinfecting solutions.
For information about suitable cleaning and disinfecting agents and
their specifications refer to document 9100081 on www.draeger.com/
IFU.
Remove the HUD from the face mask before cleaning the mask (see
Section 3.3.1).
1. Carefully clean the HUD using a clean lint-free cloth moistened in a mild
soap solution.
2. If necessary disinfect the HUD by wiping the surface using a disinfecting
agent.
6 Storage
Store the product in a cool dry environment, free from dust and dirt. Do not
expose to direct sunlight. See also the storage instructions in the mask
Instructions for Use
A small amount of power is consumed during storage. If the HUD is not to be
used for a long period or the battery is heavily discharged, remove the battery
from the HUD.
7 Disposal
7.1 Disposal of electrical and electronic equipment
Products and components marked with the adjacent symbol must not
be disposed of as household waste. You can return these items to
Dräger free of charge. For information please contact Dräger.
7.2 Batteries
Batteries must not be disposed of as household waste. Dispose of used
batteries in accordance with national or local regulations.
