Montage- und Betriebsanleitung EVN 22, EVN 22 R
Installation and operating instructions for EVN 22, EVN 22 R
Notice de montage et mode d'emploi EVN 22, EVN 22 R
DANGER Danger if the relevant regulations for elec-
trical installations are not observed.
Before installing the electrics, shut down all supply cir-
cuits, deactivate the mains fuse and secure it so it cannot
be switched back on. Attach a warning sign in a clearly vis-
ible place.
Be sure to observe the relevant regulations for electrical
installation; e.g. DIN EN 50110-1. In Germany, particularly
observe VDE 0100, with the corresponding sections.
A mains isolation device with contact openings of at least
3 mm at each pole is mandatory.
Only connect unit to a permanent electrical installation
and with cables (0.75 mm² to 1.5 mm²) of type NYM-O or
NYM-J.
The unit may only be operated using the voltage and fre-
quency shown on the rating plate.
Unit may be energized even when at a standstill and may
be started up automatically by sensors, such as those for
time delay or humidity etc.
The degree of protection stated on the rating plate is only
guaranteed if installation is undertaken correctly and if the
connecting cable is correctly guided through the cable
grommet. The grommet must tightly seal the cable
sheathing.
With protection class I, connect the PE conductor and
check the connection.
DANGER Risk of death from carbon monoxide when
operating with air-ventilated fireplaces.
Ensure sufficient supply air intake during operation with
an air-ventilated fireplace.
The fans may only be installed in rooms, flats or housing
units of comparable size in which air-ventilated fireplaces
are installed,
if simultaneous operation of air-ventilated fireplaces for li-
quid or gaseous fuels and the air extraction system is pre-
vented by safety devices or the flue gas discharge of the
air-ventilated fireplace is monitored by special safety
devices.
CAUTION Danger from burns on hot motor.
The motor may still be hot after the fan has switched off.
Cool-down time can take up to 30 minutes.
CAUTION when handling packaging materials.
Observe applicable safety and accident prevention regula-
tions.
Store packaging material out of the reach of children (risk
of suffocation due to swallowing).

3 Intended use

EVN 22 window fans are used to extract air from rooms.
EVN 22 R units can also be switched to ventilation. Ex-
amples of use: Restaurants, exhibition rooms, lecture
halls, kindergartens, hospitals, master offices and similar
rooms.
Operation is only permissible with:
● Installation in flat glass windows with single or double
glazing.
● Installation in thin walls with a pane or wall thickness of
3 to 30 mm.
● Installation with vertical installation position.
● Built-in shutter and attached inner housing.
These fans are only intended for domestic use and similar
purposes. No other or additional use is intended.

4 Unit variants

EVN 22: For air extraction. Airstream-operated shutter.
On/off with light switch or separate switch (both to be
provided by the customer). Alternatively also with step
switch → Circuit diagrams [} 14].
EVN 22 R: For air extraction or ventilation, speed control-
lable, with electric shutter. On/Off with light switch or sep-
arate switch (both on site), alternatively also combinable
with speed controller, level switch or reversing switch.

5 Overload protection

Motor protection, automatically switches the fan off in the
event of overheating/overload. NOTICE: After cooling/rec-
tifying the fault, the fan can restart automatically.

6 Technical data

• Sufficient supply air intake must be ensured during oper-
ation with air-ventilated fireplaces. The maximum per-
mitted pressure difference per residential unit is 4 Pa.

7 Installation

7.1 Fig. A + B: Preparation for installation
WARNING Danger of cuts due to glass breakage
when the pane is under tension.
Only install the pane when it is not under tension. If neces-
sary, remove the pane and putty it in without tension.
NOTICE Shutter does not close correctly if it is installed
under tension.
In order to guarantee the shutter function, only mount the
shutter on a flat surface.
• Allow sufficient space to the window frame or to the
wall or ceiling.
• Do not dismantle the shutter under any circumstances.
• Have the window cut-out fitted by a specialist. For wall/
wood panel mounting, drill a cut-out.
• Mount the shutter only in combination with the flange
sleeve.
• Thoroughly clean the pane before gluing on the shutter.
7.2 Fig. C: Removing inner housing
• Pull the flange sleeve on the motor out of the inner
housing.
• Remove the terminal box cover.
NOTICE: For wall or wooden panel mounting, drill through
the flange sleeve at the 2 knockout points if necessary.
Drill through the 4 knockout points on the shutter with the
lamellae open.
7.3 Fig. D: Attaching the shutter
Attaching the shutter to the outside of the window
1. Inserting the 4 screws into the eyelets of the shutter
until they engage.
2. Remove the protective foil from the gluing points.
3. For EVN 22 R, lead the connection cable through the
window cut-out.
4. Align the shutter in the window cut-out, press it against
the window pane and glue it in place.
NOTICE: For wall or wooden panel mounting, attach the
shutter to the wall or wooden panel using suitable mount-
ing material.
7.4 Fig. E: Attaching flange sleeve
CAUTION Danger of cuts due to glass breakage if the
nuts are too tight.
Only tighten the lock nuts carefully and not too tightly.
Attach flange sleeve to inside of window
1. For EVN 22 R: Insert the connection cable of the shut-
ter through the flange sleeve.
2. Fit the flange sleeve onto the four screws of the outer
part, align it and press it lightly against the window
pane.
3. Tighten the lock nuts with the enclosed socket spanner.
NOTICE: For wall or wooden panel mounting, fasten the
flange sleeve to the inside of the wall or wooden panel us-
ing suitable mounting material.
7.5 Fig. F + G: Connecting the fan
NOTICE: Risk of short circuits, damage to the unit due to
water penetration if the power cable is inserted incorrectly
into the terminal box. Guide the cables into the terminal
box such that the cable grommet fits around the cable
sheathing completely. If necessary, seal the cable grommet
on site.
NOTICE: Risk of injury in case of incorrect mounting, if the
fan falls down due to its inherent weight. The fan vibrates
slightly. Only install in windows with a thickness of 3 to 30
mm and using enclosed mounting material.
EVN 22 R: Guiding the connection cable to the shutter
1. Punch the cable grommet [T1] with a grommet puncher
and insert it into the side of the terminal box.
2. Guide the connection cable through the cable grommet
[T1] and provide tension relief.
EVN 22, EVN 22 R: Routing the power cable
1. Route the power cable to the installation site.
2. Punch the cable grommet [T2] with a grommet puncher
and insert it into the terminal box.
