Operating manual contents in accordance with the standards: EN 175:1997; EN 379:2003 + A1:2009 / PPE Directives
Manufacturer: TOYA SA, ul. Sołtysowicka 13/15, 51-168 Wrocław
Description of the product: The welding face protection with a manually adjusted automatic welding filter is a means of protection of
eyes and face of Category II, whose purpose is individual protection of the eyes and face from mechanical dangers and light. The shield
is a protection of an enhanced mechanical resistance. The shield does not protect from drops and liquid splashes, coarse and fine dust
particles, gas and short-circuit arc generated by short circuit. The shield is made of polyamide PA66 and it is equipped with a holding band
to be placed around the head, made of polypropylene with cotton lining. The welding filter protects the eyesight from the radiation generated
during electric-arc welding and the shading is adjusted within the range between 9 and 13. The filter is protected with a polycarbonate shield.
Persons who suffer from allergy to the aforementioned materials may experience an allergic reaction.
Shelf life: There is no specific shelf life for the product. Make sure the elements of the shield are not damaged and if necessary replace
them in accordance with the user's manual.

Explanation of the symbols: GX, STHOR - manufacturer; 74480 - importer's catalogue number; EN 379 - European Standard for auto-
matic welders' filters, EN 175 - European Standard for means of protection of the face and the eyes used during welding; 4/9-13 GX 1/1/1/2
379 – marking of welding filters with manual protection grade adjustments: 4 – number of the light state; 9 – number of the lightest dark state;
13 – number of the dark state; 1 - optical class; 1 – light dispersion class; 1 – class of deviation of the light transmission factor; 2 – class of
relation of the light transmission factor and the angle; GX 1 B CE / GX 1 F CE – marking of the external / internal shield: 1 – optical class, B
– protection from particles of a high velocity and medium energy, F – protection from particles of a high velocity and low energy. CE - symbol
of compliance with the new EU approach directives WE, „i" – a mark informing that additional information should be read.
Using the shield: Before using the shield for the first time, remove the protective foil from the protective shield. The foil on the protective
shield limits the transparency and distorts the parameters of the welding filter. Worn or damaged elements must be replaced with original
spare parts. Do not modify the guard. It is prohibited to use the guard if any element is damaged and requires replacement.
Adjustment of the holding system of the guard: Put the shield on the head, adjusting the upper band if necessary, so that the shield sits
at the appropriate height. Turning the knob at the back of the band girding the head, adjust its length, so that it does not constrict the head
during work, and the shield is not displaced during movements of the head. Use the side knobs to adjust the force required to lower and lift
the shield. Loosening the knobs, it is possible to adjust the distance between the guard and the face. Adjustments consist in pushing and
then moving the knob axis to a new position. Both sides must be set to the same position. Over the knobs there are adjustment pins which
permit to adjust the angle of the brow screen in case of the maximum lowering or lifting. In order to make adjustments, pull the pin clamping
ring, move the adjustments element to a new position and then release the clamping ring so that it locks on the pin. Make sure both the
adjustment elements are placed identically.
Operation of the automatic welding filter: Use the main handwheel at the side of the head screen to adjust the shading of the filter. If the
handwheel is set to „GRIND"then the automatic shading function will be deactivated and independently of the external conditions the filter
will remain in the light condition. Selecting a dark condition within the range between 9 and 13 will activate the welding filter and it will go dark
during work to the required level. Choosing the dark condition consult the table included in the manual, which indicates the recommended
protection grades for electric-arc welding. The filter is equipped with two additional adjustment switches. The switch indicated as „DELAY"
permits to modify the delay time for the filter, i.e. the time in which the filter will react to the changes in intensity of the light. Adjustments are
possible among three grades, where „FAST" means the quickest reaction; „MIDDLE" – medium time reaction; „SLOW" – slowest reaction.
The switch indicated as „SENSITIVITY" permits adjustments of sensitivity, namely the threshold of activation of the filter. It is recommended
to set the switch to the „MIDDLE" position in case of most welding tasks. If it is necessary to adjust the sensitivity of the filter, for example
in order to adapt to the intensity of illumination at the workplace, the switch should be set to the „LOW" or „HIGH" position, where „LOW"
means the filter needs a higher modification of the illumination for shading and the „HIGH" setting will cause the filter to react at a lower
modification of the illumination.
Replacement of the protective shields: In case any scratches, cracks, dulling or any other damage of the protective shields is observed,
they must be replaced. In order to replace the external shield, lift the shield in the middle of the edge at the cut-out in the guard, and then
remove it from the holders of the guard. Bend slightly the new shield, and then place the lateral edges of the shield in the holders of the
guard. Proceed in the same manner in case of replacement of the internal shield. Attention! It is prohibited to use the guard without the
protective shields.
Replacement of the welding filter: Set the dark state handwheel of the filter to one of the extreme positions and dismantle it, removing
it from the turning axis. Undo the fixing nut and remove the potentiometer of the adjustments handwheel. Undo the bolts holding the filter
frames – the front and the rear ones. Remove the filter and replace it with a new one. Installation of the filter must be carried out in a reverse
order, making sure the handwheel is properly fixed on the dark state adjustments potentiometer of the filter.
Work with the welding guard: The filter installed in the guard will be activated automatically in case it is illuminated with electric arc gener-
ated during welding. The reaction time amounts to 1/15 000 seconds. Before welding commences, make sure the handwheel has been set
to the dark state appropriate for the kind of welding to be carried out. If during work it is noticed the filter does not darken automatically, it
is required to interrupt the work immediately and adjust the filter. If despite the adjustments the filter is not functioning correctly, contact an
authorised service point. It is prohibited to work with a defective welding filter, since this might lead to irreversible sight damage. The range
of ambient temperature is from -5°C to +55°C. The filter has not been designed to protect the sight during laser welding.
Operating instructions: The sensors of the filter must be maintained clean and they must not be obstructed. In case of automatic welding
filters with manual adjustments, the maximum and minimum grades of protection are obtained when the tuning is set to zero. Means of eye pro-
tection, which protect from high-velocity particles worn along with standard glasses may transmit the impact, implying a danger for the user.
Attention! If what is required is protection from high-velocity particles at extreme temperatures, then the selected means of eye protection
