Protection devices

The DDA2-XL includes different protection devices to be sure
against momentary over voltages, short circuits at the outputs and
over temperature caused by over load.

4.1 Short circuit protection

Since XL-version the dimmer includes an electronic short circuit
protection per channel. It recognizes over currents caused by short
circuits or over load. In case of an error and after a short automatic
test, while the error is still there, the failed output will be switched
off. The red LED near by the lightning symbol shows the channel
with malfunction.
Restart after short circuit:
Dependant to the failure was eliminated or you want to check on
failure again, press the „clear"-button to start the automatic test.
If the channel is free of failure, the red LED goes off and the output
is enabled again.
Note: only if the channel is controlled it is possible to check if there
is still an overload or short. Otherwise only the red error LED will be
cleared.
Incandescent lamps with approx 1kW rated load may cause high
inrush currents when switched on immediately. These can trigger
the electronic short protection.
For filament lamps or LED lamps with power supplies (external or
installed in the lamp socket) the overall performance may be
reduced depending on the number of connected lamps or their
internal electronics.

4.2 Over load / Overtemperature protection

The DDA2-XL has an internal overtemperature protection, which
shuts down all channels if the total load is too high in combination
with possibly too high ambient temperatures.
After a cooling down phase, the outputs are released again.
