Painting Instructions for not Primed Body Parts made of the
Note: Abt Sportsline recommends having all paint work done by competent paint shop.
Attention: During all work steps, all body parts must be stored nondistorted and under
consideration of later assembly circumstances. Abt Sportsline assumes no liability or responsibility
for deformed parts due to inappropriate storing during assembly or painting! It is absolutely
necessary to make certain that the cast-in type plate remains readable.
1. It is essential to check the fitting accuracy of unpainted body parts at the car before painting. If
necessary, adjust slightly with appropriate tools. In case of doubt, please feel free to contact
our technical service at (+49 (0)831 57140--28/-30).
2. Smooth the sight angles, if necessary with appropriate tools.
3. Check for completeness and tight seating of the original attached covers of the gluing surfaces.
Probably complete and exchange surface defects or loose covers.
4. Store the body part non-distorted on appropriate paint trestles according to the later assembly
circumstances.
5. Temper the body part for one hour at 60º.
6. Now clean it thoroughly with lots of fresh cleaning agent or thinner for plastic materials (e.g.
Standoflex thinner 11100).
7. If the surface is rough, grind the unfinished part thoroughly by means of abrasive paper. (P320-
P360). If the surfaces are plane, grind the body part with a grinding pad (grey) soaked with
cleaning agent for plastic material.
8. Now clean the body part again thoroughly with a cleaning agent for plastic material.
9. Mix the plastic primer according to the manufacturer's instructions and apply it evenly onto the
part. Abt Sportsline recommends to use the original VW-Audi 2K plastic base paint LKF 696
040 A2 black or LKF 696 009 white each with 2K base paint hardener LHA 005 000 A2 in the
mixing ratio 1:1. After the hardener has been added, the priming coat is ready to squirt. Abt
Sportsline recommends to use alternatively Standoflex 2K plastic base filler with Standoflex 2K
plastic hardener in the same mixing ratio 1:1. This priming coat is also ready to suirt after the
hardener has been added.
10. Apply now the base coat paint onto the wet priming coat. If you like to paint on dry priming
coat, grind it once shortly (wet: P1000 - P1200, dry: P400).
11. Dilute the base coat paint according to the manufacturer's instructions and apply it onto the
prepared body part. Observe the prescribed airing time of the varnish manufacturer.
12. Elasticate the 2K Acrylic clear coat by adding approximately 15% flexibilizer and mix it with the
required amount of hardener according to the manufacturer's presetting.
13. Apply the clear coat onto the body part according to the operating instructions of the
manufacturer.
14. Let the wet paint dry at approximately 60° C.
