38. Remove swarf and clean the gluing surfaces of the Abt fender insets thoroughly with a volatile
cleaning agent (e.g. silicone remover). Let exhaust the air of the cleaned gluing surfaces for
approximately 5 minutes.
Attention: The gluing surfaces must be completely free of grease, paint and priming coat
residues!
39. Attention: During adhesion, the room, car and part temperature must not be lower than
+15° C. If necessary, condition the car early enough before installing. Below this temperature a
durable adhering cannot be guaranteed.
40. Apply the recommended primer thinly onto the cleaned and grinded gluing surfaces of the
fender insets and let exhaust the air for at least 30 minutes, but not longer than 3h.
41. Apply the recommended adhesive evenly at a width of approximately 3mm onto the prepared
gluing surfaces of the fender insets. Maximum 10 minutes time is left between the application
of the glue and the attachment on the car!
Attention: If too much adhesive is applied, increased gaps can probably occur due to the high
viscosity of the adhesive. These gaps cannot be revised after the adhesive has hardened.
42. Slightly apply the parts to the car, adjust them thoroughly and press them tight in correct
position. Fix the correct positioned parts carefully with body adhesive tape. Take care that the
Abt fender insets abut on the fenders over its entire surface and without gaps.
43. Remove discharging glue immediately by means of a blunt object (e.g. filler knife) and wipe
these areas with a non-fuzzing rag soaked with cleaning agent (e.g. silicone remover).
Attention: Hardened glue can only be mechanically removed with great effort!
44. Afterwards, check the correct positioning of all parts and adjust those if necessary.
Attention: This work step has to be done very painstakingly, later adjustment is no more
possible.
45. Remove the auxiliary material earliest after 12 hours. The Abt fender insets must not be put
under mechanical load for 24 hours. Do not wash the car for minimum 48 hours.
46. Stick both Abt emblems in the intended and before cleaned recesses of the Abt fender insets.
47. Mount the washing water tank and the filler neck again on the car and connect the hose
system as well as all electrical plug-in connections. Assembly proceeds in reverse order as in
disassembly.
Tip: To achieve perfect optics, Abt Sportsline recommends to paint in black-mat all areas of
the washing water tank which are getting visible by the insertion of the fender insets.
48. Attention: Make certain that the fixing nose of the washing water tank engages into the
seating in the fender (fig. 10, page 22).
49. Attention: When assembling the filler neck, pay attention to the seal nozzle which has to be
inserted all the way to the filler pipe. Furthermore, the nose must abut in the opening at the
filler pipe (fig. 10, page 22).
