25. Trim the cutting template along the marked lines and place it at the fender, as shown in fig. 8.
(page 19)
26. Fix the template at the fender. Mark the cutting boundaries with a soft and thin pencil on the
fenders.
Note: The template is needed for both car sides. On the right side, the template must be
turned so that letters are not readable anymore. Fig. 8 shows the left fender. The assembly of
the right fender takes place analogously - with the exception that there is no washing water
tank on the right car side.
27. Remove the template after marking the fenders.
28. Tip: To achieve a faster trimming, remove the sound dampening mats in the trimming area on
the inside of the fender by heating them with a heat gun. Then abrade them carefully with a
filler knife.
29. Drill the fender in the area of the small radiuses with a keen drill (diameter approx. 7mm).
These boreholes serve for the setting of the compressed-air saw.
Attention: Do not use a peening tool! Little deformation of the aluminum fenders can not be
excluded. When drilling, keep a clearance distance (approx. 1-2mm) to the markings on the
fender; a probably aberrant drill cannot cause damage anyway. After trimming the contours,
work them out right to the before applied markings with a file or a grinder.
30. By means of an appropriate saw (e.g. compressed-air saw with a fine saw blade), cut along the
marked intersection lines.
Tip: Hold the saw blade preferably slant to the intersection line in order to bring more saw
blade teeth into contact at the same time. Hence, strong vibrations can be prevented
effectively and the risk of deformation decreases.
