10.1 Intended use

The device "SimpleTrim" is intended for control and display of the position of electrically operated
trim flaps of experimental airplanes according to ICAO Annex I und ultralight airplanes (UL's). The
power supply of the device is done by the battery buffered 12 V DC bus.
The device has been designed according to current state of the art and harmonised standards.
As the manufacturer does not have influence on the design and function of the direct positioning
element of the trim flap, no guarantee whatsoever can be given for the function of the trim system.
It is sole responsibility of the manufacturer of the aircraft to design, build and test the whole
electrical and mechanical system for flawless operation and correctly install the SimpleTrim
device.
The installation or the use of SimpleTrim for other than the intended use is not
permitted.
The installation of SimpleTrim into certified aircraft is not permitted.
11 Function
By actuation of an external self-centering push switch, the drive motor of a trim flap is actuated by
the device. The motor will be driven as long as the switch remains pushed. The rotational direction of
the motor is according to the given switch position.
When the switch is disengaged, the motor coils will be short circuited for safe stopping and hindering
from self actuating (electromagnetic short circuit brake).
By means of an external potentiometer which has to be mechanically connected to the trim flap, the
integrated display element will show the current position of the trim flap. The display is visible in
direct sunlight, as well. The integrated microcontroller ensures that always one bar is lit at all times.
By its internal protective circuits, the device is tolerant against short circuiting of the in- and outputs.
