Einige wenige lineare Fluoreszenzleuchtmitteltypen reagieren eventuell nicht bei Prüfungen an der Glasfläche. Eine Prüfung am Leuchtmittelsockelkontakt mit der Sonde des Messgerätes (Direktkontakt Metall zu Metall) sollte bei einem einwandfreien Leuchtmittel zu einer eindeutigen Reaktion führen.
