2 Applications
The video cameras TVCCD-255 (black/white version)
and TVCCD-255COL (colour version) are especially
designed for applications in video surveillance
systems. It is possible to use lenses with automatic iris
control [AI lenses (Automatic Iris)], video signal con-
trolled and DC controlled] and lenses with manual iris
adjustment. For lenses with manual iris adjustment the
camera is equipped with an automatic electronic shut-
ter (AES) for exposure control.
In addition, the cameras have an automatic gain
control (AGC) and an installed microphone. They are
supplied with a connection plug for the iris control, an
adapter ring for C mount lenses, and a hexagonal key
for correcting the mechanical focus setting.
3 Safety Notes
The camera corresponds to the directive 89/336/EEC
for electromagnetic compatibility.
The camera is only suitable for indoor use. In case
of outside mounting it must be placed into a weath-
erproof protective housing.
Protect the camera against dust, humidity, and heat
(admissible ambient temperature range 0 – 40 °C).
For cleaning only use a dry, soft cloth, by no means
chemicals and water.
If the camera is used for purposes other than orig-
inally intended, if it is not correctly mounted or con-
nected, or not repaired in an expert way, no guarantee

claims for the camera or liability for any resulting per-
sonal damage or material damage will be accepted.
If the camera is to be put out of operation definitive-
ly, take it to a local recycling plant for disposal which
is not harmful to the environment.

Attention! Protect the CCD image sensor chip and
the lenses of the lens assembly against dust and
impurities and never touch them with your fingers in
any case.
1) Remove the protective cover (13).
2) When using a C mount lens, first screw the supplied
C mount adapter ring (12) to the threaded ring (11)
and the lens onto it. When using a CS mount thread,
remove the adapter ring (12), if necessary, and
screw the lens directly onto the threaded ring (11).
3) When using a lens with controlled iris, connect it to
jack AUTO IRIS (5). If necessary, use the supplied
plug. Depending on the position of the upper switch
(3), the jack has the following pin configuration:

Attention! To avoid damage of camera or lens,
prior to the connection of the lens check the posi-
tion of the upper switch and the pin configuration
of the plug.
5 Mounting
The camera can be mounted onto a camera stand, on
a pan/tilt head (e. g. VPT-50 of MONACOR), or onto
a camera bracket (e. g. of the TVH series of
MONACOR). For fixing, two threaded holes [thread

6 Connection
1) Connect the BNC output jack VIDEO (1) via a 75 Ω
cable (e. g. VEC-62/10 of MONACOR) to a moni-
tor. Observe the correct 75 Ω termination at the
monitor or at the last monitor in case of series
connection. With a cable length of more than 100 m
a video amplifier should be switched between the
camera and the long cable to compensate cable
losses.
2) Connect the phono output jack AUDIO (4) to the
audio input of the monitor.
3) Connect the operating voltage of 12 V
voltage plug 5.5/2.1 mm (outside/inside diameter) to
the coaxial supply jack (7) [inside contact = positive
pole]. An electronically regulated power supply unit
with an output voltage of 10.8 to 13.2 V is required
(e. g. PS-12CCD or PS-500ST of MONACOR). The
current consumption of the camera is:
TVCCD-255
160 mA
TVCCD-255COL 120 mA
7 Setting into Operation
1) After applying the operating voltage the camera is
ready for operation. The LED "PL" (8) lights up.
2) After switching on the monitor, adjust the camera to
the surveillance range. Observe that no sunlight
directly hits the lenses. Otherwise the CCD image
sensor chip could be damaged!
3) Adjust the distance at the lens. In case of a lens
with manually adjustable iris, adjust it to optimum
picture reproduction (depth of focus and bright-
ness).
4) If the picture is not clear in case of correctly ad-
justed distance, correct the mechanical focus set-
ting for the lens. For this purpose release the hexa-
gon screw (10) with the supplied hexagon key.
Adjust a clear picture by turning the threaded ring
(11). Then tighten the screw again.
5) When using a lens with DC voltage controlled iris
(DC lens), the operating point of the control can be
corrected if the picture appears too dark or too
bright: By turning the control LEVEL (6) adjust the
optimum brightness with a small screw driver.
When using a lens with video signal controlled iris,
controls are provided at the lens.
