2 Description
The Safety Barrier Zone 2 safety barrier is an electrical device for ins-
tallation in a switch cabinet in safe areas. It ensures the intrinsic safety
of power circuits supplying bay units in potentially explosive areas (ha-
zardous-areas).
The safety barrier restricts current and voltage to ensure that a poten-
tially flammable gas mixture does not reach the minimum ignition ener-
gy and minimum ignition temperature.
The safety barrier is designed for long-term operation and is mainte-
nance-free.
2.1

Intended use

The safety barrier is designed to operate intrinsically safe 2-wire-bay
units (4-20 mA, HART; e. g. Dräger Polytron 3000/7000) in Zone 2 ha-
zardous areas. It has four intrinsically safe power circuits.
The safety barrier is suitable for gas groups IIA IIB or IIC, depending
on the intrinsically safe parameters of the connected power circuit
(see section 4.1 on page 10).
2.2 Limitations on use
The safety barrier is not suitable for use in high-power technology.
The safety barrier must not be installed within the hazardous area.
2.3 Approvals
As per ATEX Directive 94/9/EC Annex VIII module: internal production
control.

WARNING
!
The safety barrier must be installed on a top-hat rail in
a dustproof and waterproof switch cabinet. The top-hat rail
must be connected to the equipotential bonding of the hazar-
dous area.
The applicable local regulations must be observed for the lay-
out of the intrinsically safe power circuit.
