Working advice

General advice
Before drilling, make sure that the quick-action clamp (3),
the parallel guide (19) and/or the machine vice (accessory)
are tightly fastened.
The drill can become jammed in the workpiece when it is be-
ing removed from the workpiece, which may cause kickback.
Therefore, make sure to slow down the feed motion towards
the end of the drilling procedure.
If the application tool becomes blocked, switch the power
tool off. Allow the application tool and the workpiece to cool
down. Remove the drilling chips. Investigate and take cor-
rective action to eliminate the cause of the application tool
jamming.
Special advice for drilling in metal
Metal workpieces should be centre-punched before drilling
into them.
Pre-drill if a drilling diameter is over 10 mm.
Use cutting oil (e.g. Bosch universal cutting oil) to cool the
drilling point and facilitate your work.
Position of the operator
Always stand in front of the power tool. This will ensure
u
you always have a good view of the drilling point.
– Keep hands and fingers away from the rotating applica-
tion tool.
– Do not reach one arm across the other when in front of
the drive unit.
Drilling
– Place the workpiece on the base plate (1).
– Set the height of the drive unit.
– Align the workpiece by referring to the laser cross.
– Clamp the workpiece.
– Set an appropriate speed.
– Switch on the power tool.
– To drill, turn the hand wheel (11) with uniform feed until
the required drilling depth is reached.
– Once the required drilling depth has been reached, re-
tract the hand wheel (11) until the drive unit has returned
to its initial position.
– Switch the power tool off.
Displaying the drilling depth (see figure I)
The current drilling depth can be viewed on the display (14).
– After setting the speed, press the button (33) to switch
the indicator area of the display to "Depth".
– Set the height of the drive unit.
– Rest the tip of the drill bit lightly on the workpiece.
– Press the button (34) to determine the zero point.
"Reset" appears on the display (14).
– Drill with uniform feed until the required drilling depth is
shown on the display.
Bosch Power Tools
Setting the drilling depth (see figure J)
The depth stop (9) can be used to determine the drilling
depth t.
– Loosen the clamping lever (8) by turning it anticlockwise.
– Carry out a test drilling procedure. If the required drilling
depth t is shown on the display (14), retighten the clamp-
ing lever (8).
The drilling depth is then limited to the value t for sub-
sequent drilling procedures.
Transport (see figure K)
– When transporting the power tool, hold it with both hands
on the base plate (1) (➊) or with one hand on the drill
column (4) (➋).
Do not carry the power tool by the hand wheel (11) (➌).

Maintenance and servicing

Maintenance and Cleaning

Pull the plug out of the socket before carrying out any
u
work on the power tool.
To ensure safe and efficient operation, always keep
u
the power tool and the ventilation slots clean.
In order to avoid safety hazards, if the power supply cord
needs to be replaced, this must be done by Bosch or by an
after-sales service centre that is authorised to repair Bosch
power tools.
If necessary, clean the drill column (4) with a dry cloth and
spray it lightly with Bosch universal cutting oil (accessory).
Adjusting the brake of the drive unit (see figure L)
The clamping force of the brake for the drive unit (12) can
be adjusted.
Checking
– The clamping force of the brake must securely hold the
drive unit at any height.
Adjusting
– Use the hex key (23) to turn the set screw (35) anticlock-
wise to reduce the clamping force or clockwise to in-
crease the clamping force.
– Check whether the required clamping force has been
reached.
