Starting the System with the Installation Disk
Before you start your system for the first time, take a minute to gather the
materials you'll need.
• The Installation Disk (labeled "HP PC-300 Installation Disk"). It's packed
with this booklet.
• The two MS-DOS disks (labeled "Startup/Operation" and "HP+"). They're
packed inside the Microsoft MS-DOS manual, volume 1.
• The HP BASIC Disk 1 (3.5-inch disk labeled "HP BASIC Language
Processor SW Disk I"). It and several other BASIC disks are packed inside
the BASIC Language box.
To start your system for the first time, follow these steps:
1. Insert the PC-300 Installation Disk into the flexible disk drive, called drive
A: (the upper drive). The end with the metal shutter goes in first.
2. Turn on the display (push the power button-its light turns on or the
button latches in).
3. Turn on the computer.
4. Wait while the computer performs a Power-On Self-Test and then
automatically begins the start-up program.
If the computer shows the message Invalid configuration information
when it starts, you should not continue here. Instead, go to "Invalid
Configuration Information" near the end of this chapter (under "Problems
During Installation"). After you fix the problem, start this procedure again.
