Liability Statement
Responsibility for reliable function of equipment transfers to the owner or
operator when serviced or repaired by untrained personnel, (not employed
or authorised by Dräger), or when used in a manner not conforming to its
intended use.
2
Description and Intended Use
The Dräger PSS
®
Rescue Hood assembly incorporates a 1.5 metre
flexible airline hose fitted with a male coupling for connection to the
secondary supply hose of the selected SCBA. A foam silencer pad is fitted
inside the front port of the hood to assist in reducing noise from the
incoming air flow. The PSS Rescue Hood and Hose assembly is contained
in a carrying pouch that can be assembled to the waistbelt of the selected
SCBA.
The Dräger PSS Rescue Hood is intended for use only in conjunction with
self contained compressed air breathing apparatus (SCBA), fitted with an
appropriate secondary supply hose, and that is approved to the
requirements of EN137. When the hood is placed over the head of an
injured or distressed individual who is to be rescued, the hose connection
to the secondary supply hose of the SCBA provides the individual being
rescued with a regulated constant flow of breathable air into the hood from
the SCBA.
2.1
Technical Data
The Dräger PSS Rescue Hood fits all head sizes.
Output Pressure from SCBA secondary supply hose – between 6bar and
9bar.
2.2
Materials and Fittings
Hood – manufactured in a flame retardant and self-extinguishing material.
Supply Hose Fitting – male inlet connector, (identical to Rectus type series
95KS or Cejn type series 344).
Carrying Pouch – flame-retardant, spray water protected.
3
Preparation for Use
Put on the SCBA and carry out pre-operational checks as defined the
Instructions for Use supplied with the equipment. Proceed to the
incident rescue point.
WARNING
The time required to allow the wearer of the SCBA to safely
complete the rescue must be taken into account before use of this
rescue procedure. It is therefore the responsibility of the end user
to decide whether this product is suitable for the intended
application.

In Use
Refer to For Your Safety
4.1
Putting On the PSS Rescue Hood
On location of the individual to be rescued - remove the hood and hose
assembly from the carrying pouch. Connect the male coupling of the
hose from the hood to the female outlet connector of the secondary
supply hose of the SCBA.
NOTICE
Connection will immediately activate the air supply to the hood
WARNING
The remaining duration of the air supply from the SCBA will
immediately begin to reduce following attachment of the hose from
the hood to the secondary supply hose of the SCBA, and not from
the time of putting the hood on the individual to be rescued. Time
required to allow the wearer of the SCBA to safely complete the
rescue must be taken into account before use of this rescue
procedure. It is therefore the responsibility of the end user to
decide whether this product is suitable for the intended application.
Pull the hood over the head of the individual to be rescued. Align the
visor of the hood to cover the face and ensure that the front inhalation
port is located at the nose and mouth. To minimise air leakage, grip the
neck cord and with the other hand press the spring loaded toggle, pull
up firmly to close the neck seal around the neck and throat ensuring it
is not too tight and is a close comfortable fit.
Proceed to complete the rescue of the individual. See For Your Safety.

of the breathing apparatus operation will be impaired. Prevent any
liquid from entering, and thoroughly dry the breathing apparatus
after cleaning to prevent this from occurring.
For information about suitable cleaning and disinfecting agents
and their specifications refer to document 9100081 on
