b) tacking:
The pilot flame tip is chosen based on the thickness and density of the
parts being joined (see table on page 61).
As in autogenous welding, the parts must be tacked to keep them firm.
This involves creating braze welding points 2-3 mm long by depositing
coated brass on the parts that have been spot heated to wetting tem-
perature in advance.
The order in which these points should be made is the same as for
autogenous welding (see page 54).
c) performing the operation:
Spot heat the start of the joint to wetting temperature (650'750°C). You
can tell when this temperature has been reached by depositing a drop
of filler metal which should spread out and penetrate the joint.
Continue along the joint depositing filler metal by dipping the end of the
rod intermittently in the "weld pool" (once a second approximately).
Forward progress and the filler metal deposit are regulated by moni-
toring the bead which should be of regular shape and width.
The cone should be maintained at 2 or 3 mm from the joint during the
braze welding process. The welding torch should not be moved side-
ways.
Welding torch and filler metal positions with respect to the joint.
When restarting after welding in progress has been halted, move back 1 cm to
melt the end of the halted bead.
