Die Tiqer Moth

der Welt. Nach dem ersten Plug im August "93' .v*>rce sie
schnell als standardma'IBiges Ausbildungsflugzeug bei vieten
Fliegerclubs und Reservegeschwadern eingesetzt Mrtoffenem
Doppel-Cockpit und Doppelsteuerung konnte skh diese
Maschine auBerst gut auf jede primare Ausbildung
einschlieRlich Flugakrobatik und Blindflug einstellen. Wahrend
des Zweiten Weltkriegs wurde die Tiger Moth auch von der
britischen Luftwaffe eingesetzt. Die meisten Piloten jener Zeit
begannen ihre Laufbahn in dieser Maschine. Die Tige

spielte auch eine wichtige Rolle im Luftausbildungsp =- res
britischen Commonwealth. Gro(3e Stuckzahlen wurden in
Kanada gebaut; manche waren mit Schwimmern und Kufen
ausgerustet und viele mit verglasten, schiebbaren Cockprt-
Abdeckungen. Weitere Benutzer waren die australische und
neuseelandische Luftwaffe, Portugal, Uruguay, der Iran und
der Irak flogen ebenfalls die Tiger Moth. Kurze Zeit nach
Beginn des Zweiten Weltkriegs wurde die Tiger Moth bei U-
Boot Kustenpatrouillen eingesetzt. Obwohl sie wahrscheinlich
durch ihre Kriegseinsa'tze ihre groRte Beruhmtheit erlangte,
erwies sich die Maschine bei Privatbesitzern als auBerst beliebt.
Die Tiger Moth 1st ein hervorragendes Beispiel fur die Entwick-
lung von Leichtflugzeugen Mitte der 30er Jahre. Das gesamte
Moth-Programm wurde mit enormem Erfolg von De Havilland
konstruiert und hergestellt. La'nge: 7,30 m; Spannweite: 8,95
m; Motor: 130 PS Gipsy Major I.
The Tiqer Moth
was one of the most widely used primary trainers in the world.
After its first flight in August 1931, the Tiger Moth rapidly ente-
red service as a standard trainer with many flying clubs and
auxiliary squadrons. With open tandem cockpits and dual
control, the aircraft is supremely adaptable to all branches of
primary training including aerobatics and blind flying. It was
used by the RAF troughout WWII and indeed most pilots in
that era began their flying careers in this machine. The Tiger
Moth also played an important part in the British Common-
wealth Air Training Plan, and large numbers were built in
Cananda, some being equipped with floats and skis, and many
with glazed siding cockpit patrols. Other users were the Royal
Australian and New Zealand Air Forces, together with Portu-
gal, Uruguay, Iran and Iraq. For a short period at the beginning
of WWII Tiger Moths were used for anti-submarine coastal
patrols. Arthough probably most famous for its war-time role,
the machine proved very popular with private owners, and
examples are still in use all over the world. The Tiger Moth is an
outstanding example of the development of light aircraft in
the mid 1930's and was the culmination of a whole range of
Moth aircraft designed and produced with enormous success
by the De Havilland Company. Length: 23 ft 11 in; Span: 29ft
