der Welt. Nach dem ersten Flug im A ugust 1931 wurde sie
schnell als standardmaBiges A usbïldungsflugzeug bei vielen
Flïegerclubs und Reservegeschwadern eïngesetzt. Mit offenem
Doppel­Cockpit und 'Doppelsteuerung konnte sich diese
Maschine auBerst gut auf jede primare A usbildung
einschlieBlich Flugakrobatik und Blindflug eïnstellen. Wahrend
des Zweiten Weltkrïegs wurde die Tiger Moth auch von der
britischen Luftwaffe eïngesetzt. Die meïsten Piloten jener Zeit
begannen ihre Laufbahn in dieser Maschine. Die Tiger Moth
spielte auch eine wichtige Rolle im Luftausbildungsplan des
britischen Commonwealth. GroBe Stückzahlen wurden. in
Kanada gebaut; manche waren mit Schwimmern und Kufen
ausgerüstet und vieJe mit verglasten, schiebbaren Cockpit­
Abdeckungen. Weitere Benutzer waren die australische und
neuseelandïsche Luftwaffe, Portugal, Uruguay, der Iran und
der Irak flogen ebenfalls die Tiger Moth. Kurze Zeit nach
Beginn des Zweïten Weltkrïegs wurde die Tiger Moth bei U­
Boot Küstenpatrouillen eirïgesetzt. Obwohl sie wahrscheinlich
durch ihre Kriegseinsatze ihre gröBte Berühmtheit erlangte,
erwies sich die Maschine bei Privatbesitzern als auBerst beliebt.
Die Tiger Moth ist ein hervorragendes Beispiel für die Entwïck­
lung von Leichtflugzeugen Mïtte der 30er Jahre. Das gesamte
Moth­Programm wurde mit enormem Erfolg von De Havilla'nd
konstruiert und hergestellt. Lange: 7,30 m; Spannweite: 8,95

After its first flight in August 1931, the Tiger Moth rapidly ente­
red service as a standard trainer with many flying clubs and
auxiliary squadrons. With open tandem cockpits and dual
control, the aircraft is supremely adaptable to all branches of
primary training including aerobatics and blind flying. It was
used by the RA F troughout WWII and indeed most pilots in
that era began their flying careers in this machine. The Tiger
Moth also played an important part in the British Common­
wealth A ir Training Plan, and large numbers were built in
Cananda, some being equipped with floats and skis, and many
with glazed sliding cockpit patrols. Other users were the Royal
Australian and New Zealand A ir Forces, together with Portu­
gal, Uruguay, Iran and Iraq. For a short period at the beginning
of WWII Tiger Moths were used for anti­submarine coastal
patrols. Although probably most famous for its war­time role,
the machine proved very popular with private owners, and
examples are still in use all over the world. The Tiger Moth is an
outstanding example of the development of light aircraft in
the mid 1930's and was the culmination of a whole range of
Moth aircraft designed and produced with enormous success
by the De Havilland Company. Length: 23 f t 11 in; Span: 29ft
