The parallel guide fits into the shoe
plate and is locked in place by the
parallel guide lock screw.
It is used to guide the jigsaw along a
straight line, which can be an edge
of a work-piece or a piece of straight
timber clamped to the work-piece.
By changing the position of the guide
and using the same straight edge as
a guide, it is possible to quickly and
easily make parallel cuts in the work-
piece.
NOTE: When adjusting the cutting angle,
you can move the parallel guide lock
screw to the left or right.
With the speed controller, the rate of
oscillation can be selected (also
during operation). Rotate the speed
controller to choose the suitable
speed.
The optimum speed depends on the
material and should be determined by
carrying out a practical test.
Stage MIN: slow, Stage MAX: quick
g. Switch on and off (Fig.7)
Fig. 7
If you press the lock on button while the trigger switch is depressed, the switch is kept
in the operating position. This is convenient when continuous operating for extended
periods of time is required.
• To release the lock on button, press and release the trigger switch.
NOTE: Always lift the jig saw from the work before switching on or switch off.
3. Operation for working
a. General cutting
Ensure that the blade is the correct type for the application and that the length extends
through the work-piece on the upstroke of the cut.
1. Determine how the jig saw is best configured for the job and make the
required adjustment.
2. Switch on the jig saw and allow the blade to reach maximum speed.
3. Slowly guide the jig saw forward, building up speed as you go, keeping the
shoe plate at against the work-piece.
NOTE: Do not force the jig saw. Use only enough pressure to keep the blade cutting. Do
not force the cutting, allow the blade and the saw to do the work.
b. Metal cutting
1. When cutting metal ALWAYS clamp down the metal work-piece.
2. Be extremely careful to move the saw very slowly as you cut. Use slower
speeds (Position 1, 2 or 3 on the Speed Control). DO NOT twist, bend or force
the blade.
3. When cutting metals, suitable cooling/cutting oil must be used. Squirt the
lubricant onto the blade or work-piece at regular intervals during cutting in
order to reduce wear on the blade.
